(2) AMBADI SEEDS GRADING AND MARKING RULES Short title and application. -(l)”Ihese rules may be called the Ambadi Seeds Grading and Marking Rules, 1964.
(2) They shall apply to Ambadi Seeds (Seeds of plants botanically known as Hibiscus cannabinus and Hibiscus sabdarfi'a) produced in India.
Definitions. — In these rules — “Agricultural Marketing Adviser” means the Agricultural Marketing Adviser to the Government of India;
“Schedule” means a Schedule appended to these rules.
Grade designation.
— The grade designations to indicate the quality of Ambadi seeds shall be as set out in column 1 of Schedule II.
Definition of quality.
— The quality indicated by the respective grade designation shall be as set out against each grade designation in columns 2 to 8 of Schedule II.
Grade designation mark. — The grade designation mark shall consist of a label specifying the grade designation and bearing a design (consisting of an outline map of India with the word “AGMARK” and the figure of the rising sun, with the words, ‘Produce of India’ and well?! W resembling the one as set out in schedule I.
Methqd of marking. —-(l) The grade designation mark shall be securely affixed to each container in a manner approved by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser.
(2) In addition to the grade designation mark, each container shall be clearly marked with such particulars and in such a manner as may be specified by the aforesaid officer.

(3) An authorised packer may atter obtaining the prior approval of the Agricultural Marketing Adviser, mark his private trade mark on a container, in a manner approved by the said Ofiicer, provided that the private trade mark does not represent quality or grade of Ambadi seeds different from that indicated by the grade designation mark affixed to the container in accordance with these rules.
Method of packing. -(1) Only sound, clean and dry containers made of jute, shall be used for packing. They shall be free from any insect infestation or fungus contamination and also free from any undesirable smell.
(2) The containers shall be securely closed and sealed in a manner approved by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser.
(3) Each package shall contain Ambadi seeds of one grade designation only.
Special conditions of certificate of authorisation. v In addition to the conditions specified in rule 4 of the General Grading and Marking Rules, 1937, the following shall be the condition of every certificate of authorisation issued for the purpose of these rules, namely:-
(1) An authorised packer shall mark such arrangements for testing Ambadi seeds, as may be prescribed from time to time by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser.
(2) An authorised packer shall provide all facilities to the Inspecting Officers duly authorised by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser, for sampling, testing and such other matters as may be specified.

(b) have uniform shape, size and colour;
(c) be dry,c1ean and free from moulds, weevils, obnoxious smell, discoloration, admixture of deleterious substances and all impurities except to the extent indicated in the Schedule;
(d) be in sound merchantable condition.
Definitions :
(a) Foreign matter— Any foreign matter of the nature of dust, stones, lumps of earth and mud, chaff, stem, straw, non-edible seeds and other matter which is not covered by any other item.
(1)) Damaged seeds — Seeds that are internally discoloured and spoiled by natural or unnatural factors,
(c) Shrivelled and Immature seeds —- Seeds which are not properly developed and having wrinkled surface.
((1) Weevilled Seeds - Seeds partially or wholly bored or eaten by weevil or any other insects.
Note :
For accidental errors, a tolerance is permissible up to 0.25, 0.5 and 1.0 percent in excess of tolerance specified each ofthe columns 2 and 5 for grades I, II and 111 respectively, and a tolerance is permissible up to 0.01, 0.05 and 0.25 percent in excess of the tolerance specified in each of the columns 3, 4, 6 and 7 for grades 1,11, and 111 respectively.
