Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (1) of section 4, until the Village Assistants are appointed in respect of one or more revenue villages under sub-section (1) of section 4, the competent authority, may as an interim arrangement, appoint any officer of the State Government not below the rank of a junior Assistant to discharge the functions of the Village Assistant under this Act for one or more revenue villages.
