ASSAM ACT NO. XIII OF 1995 (Received the assent of the Governor on 21st April, 1995) THE GUWAHATI MUNICIPAL CORPORATION (AMENDMENT) NO. 2 ACT, 1995 AN ACT further to amend the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act, 1969.
Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Assam Act Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act, 1969, herein- I of 1973.
after referred to as the principal Act.
It is hereby enacted in the Forty-sixth Year of the Republic of India as follows :- Short title, extent and commence ment.
1. (1) This Act may be called the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act,
1995.
Insertion of new subclauses in section S.
(2) It shall have the like extent as the principal Act.
(3) It shall come into force at once.
2. In the principal Act, in section 5, in sub section (1) (a), after sub-clause (V), the following new sub-clauses shall be inserted, namely :- "(vi) Seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes under sub-clause (V), shall be determined by the State Government by order published in the Official Gazette :
Provided that such seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes may be allotted by rotation to different wards in such manner as the State Government may, by order published in the Official Gazette, direct.
(vii) The number of seats reserved for women belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from amongst the seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes under first proviso to sub-clause (V) shall be determined by the State Government by order published in the Official Gazette:

Provided that such seats reserved for women belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes may be allotted by rotation to different wards in such manner as the State Government may, by order published in the Official Gazette, direct.
(viii) The number of seats reserved for women belonging to general category under second proviso to sub-clause (V) shall be determined by the State Government by order published in the Official Gazette:
Provided that such seats reserved for women belonging to general category may be allotted by rotation to different wards in such manner as the State Government may, by order published in the Official Gazette, direct.
(ix) The term of office of the Mayor reserved for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Women under third proviso to sub-clause(V) shall be determined by the State Government by order published in the Official Gazette."
Repeal and 3. (1) The Guwahati Municipal Corporation S avin g . (Amendment) Ordinance, 1995 is hereby repealed.
(2) Notwithstanding such repeal anything done or any action taken under the Ordinance so repealed shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the corresponding provisions of this Act as if this Act came into force on the date the Ordinance came into force.
