The Assam Prisons Act, 2013State Act of Assam · Act 15 of 2013

(1) No officer of a prison shall, in his dealing with the inmates, use force except in self-defence or in the repression of disturbances or in cases of attempted escape by any inmate from the prison or physical resistance to any lawful order.

(2) Any officer having recourse to force in the event of any of the contingencies mentioned in sub-section (1), shall use no more force than is strictly necessary, and shall immediately report the fact and the cause of it to the Superintendent or, in case of an officer subordinate to the Jailer, to the Jailer.
