And, whereas, the copies of the said Gazette were made available to the public on 13th August, 2010 by the Cantonment Boards;

And, whereas, all the objections and suggestions received before the date so specified have been duly considered by the Central Government; · Now, therefore, in exercise of powers conferred by Section 346 read with Section 23 of the said Act, ( 41 of2006) the Central Govemmentherebymakes the following rules, namely:- Cantonments (Payment of Allowances to Vice-President and Elected Memben) Rules, lOll I. Short title.-These rules may be called the Cantonments (Payment of Allowances to Vke-President and Elected Members) Rules, 20 II.

2. Definition .-(I) In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires:­

(a) "Act" means the CantonmentsAct, 2006 (41 of2006);

(b) "Board" means Cantonment Board constituted under the Act;

(c) "Member" means the member elected to the Board;

(d) "Vice-President" means the Vice-President of the Board.

(2) The words and expressions used in these rules, but not defined, but defined in the Act, shall have the same meaning as assigned to them in the Act.

3. Honorarium, conveyance allowance and the telephone allowance payable to tbe Vice-President and Membeis.-

(1) The Vice-President and the Members shall be entitled to receive the folfowing allowances at the rate specified in the Table below, namely:- Serial Category of Honorarium payable number Cantonment (permensurn)to Vice-President 2 3 L Category I Rs.5000 (Rupees five thousand only)

(2) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-rules (I) and (2), no conveyance allowance shall be payable to the Vice-President and a Member unless he attends the meeting of the Board or Committee at least once in a month to which the payment relates.

(3) Wherever a vehicle is provided by the Board to the Vice-President, the cost of fuel of such vehicle shall be deducted from the conveyance allowance to be paid to the Vice-President for that month:

Provided that the total cost of the fuel shall not exceed the conveyance allowance to be paid to the Vice­ President for that month.

4. Travelling allowances to a member.- (!) The travelling allowance may be paid to a member on account of journey undertaken outside the canton­ ment, in pursuance of his duties as such member, or as a member of a committee of the Board:

Provided that-

(a) the undertaking of the journey has been sanctioned by a resolution of the Board;

(b) in the case of a journey within the command, the resolution has been confirmed by the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, the Command;

(c) in the case of a journey outside the command, the resolution has been confirmed by the Director­ General, Defence Estates, or

(d) in the case of a journey outside India, the resolution of the Board has been confmned by the Central Government.

(2) The travelling allowance of a member shall not exceed the actual expenditure incurred by him on the journey or the amount of the travelling allowance which shall be admissible in respect of the same journey to the Chief Executive Officer ofthe Cantonment under any rules for the time being in force, whichever is less.
