A copy of the said Regulation(s) has been uploaded in the Assam University website. Further, the syllabi of different subjects under CBCS course structure for Under Graduate Programme are also uploaded in the university website. To fulfil that dream, the University always put several initiatives towards improvements in curriculum, teaching-learning process, examinations including evaluation system and administrative reforms. Keeping this with Assam University's Vision and Mission, the process of introduction of semester, grading and credit systems have already been initiated in both PG and UG level of the University. In continuation of the above initiatives, Assam University has accepted the Introduction of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) as per UGC Guidelines for Three-year Degree Courses taught in the affiliated Colleges. The main feature of the CBCS Is to make undergraduate education student centric rather than system centric or teacher centric. Thus, in addition to dedicated focus on a discipline through core papers whether in an Honours curriculum or a General curriculum, elective papers have been added which will give students the freedom to choose the allied/ applied/ broad areas of their discipline and the areas of other disciplines of their interest. Under the system, the students can also opt for an Interdisciplinary approach to learning. Further, keeping with the vision of the Government, special emphasis has been given to ability enhancement and skill development of students through elective courses under these domains which every student is required to study. The CBCS provides an opportunity for the students to choose from the prescribed curricula comprising core, elective and skill-based courses. Students' progress throughout the prescribed curricula can be evaluated adopting the Continuous Assessment, which is considered to be better as It provides a more accurate and complete picture of the learners' level and their understanding of what they have learned. Continuous Assessment & Grading System (CAGS) looks at the students' overall capabilities in the form of regular assignments, regularity in attendance and performance in semester end examinations. With Continuous Assessment, the learners are encouraged to use their knowledge on a more frequent basis. To bring uniformity in the evaluation system, the University shall comply with the 10-point Grading System recommended by UGC. With this background Assam University has framed this CBCS Regulations for B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., B.C.A. and B.B.A. Programmes of Study to be effective from the Academic Session 2018-2019.
2. T ITLE : These Regulations shall be called "Assam Uniyersity Regulations for Three-year Degree Course under Choice Based Credit System, 2018" and in short, it will be referred to as "AUS TDC CBCS REGULATIONS 2018".
3. SCOPE:
3.1, The Regulations provided herein shatt apply to all regular three-year Degree (TD C ) Programmes of Study leading to the following Bachelor's Degrees under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS): B.A.(Honours), B.Sc.(Honours), B.Com.(Honours), B.C.A.(Honours), B.B.A.(Honours), B.A., B.Sc., B.Com. and B.C.A.
3.2. These Regulations shall be reviewed as and when Distance Education and private programmes will be offered by the University and, as and when It stands to reason for review.
4. OBJECTIVES:
4.1. To provide flexibility in designing curriculum and assigning credits based on the course content and hours of teaching.
4.2. To provide a 'cafeteria' type approach in which the students can choose courses of their choice, learn at their own pace, undergo additional courses, and acquire more than the required credits, and adopt an interdisciplinary approach to learning.
4.3. To bring in the desired uniformity, in grading system and method for computing the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) based on the performance of students in the examinations. AUS TDC CBCS REGULATIONS 2018 2
5. APPLICATION AND COMMENCEMENT:
5.1. These Regulations shall come Into force with effect from the Academic Session from 2018-2019 and, shall be applicable to the students enrolled in the BA/ BSc/ BCom/ BCA / BBA programmes of study conducted by the colleges affiliated to Assam University.
5.2. The provisions herein supersede all the existing relevant Regulations/ Amendments/ Notifications/ Circulars/ Orders etc., for the regular BA/ BSc/ BCom/ BCA / BBA programmes of study under CBCS, to the extent herein prescribed.
5.3. Any other BA/ BSc/ BCom/ BCA/ BBA programmes of study under Semester/ Yearly/ Annual System shall be governed by the respective Regulations/ Amendments/ Notifications/ Circulars/ Orders etc., approved by the Appropriate Authority.
5.4. All colleges affiliated to Assam University shall implement Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in their Degree Courses from the Academic Session 2018-2019 as per the "AUS TDC CBCS REGULATIONS 2018".
6. MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTIONS: The medium of instructions shall be English except programmes/ courses/ subjects/ topics in Modem Indian Languages.
7. DEFINITIONS:
7.1. University: University means Assam University, Silchar.
7.2. Executive Council: Executive Council means Executive Council of Assam University, Silchar.
7.3. Academic Council: Academic Council means Academic Council of Assam University, Silchar,
7.4. Board of Studies: Board of Studies means Board of Post Graduate Studies (BPGS) for Post Graduate Programmes and Board of Under Graduate Studies (BUGS) for Under Graduate Programmes.
7.5. College: College means the college affiliated to Assam University, Silchar.
7.6. Principal: Principal means the Principal of a college affiliated to Assam University, Silchar.
7.7. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS): CBCS is a flexible system of learning that permits students to learn at their own pace and choose electives from a wide range of elective courses offered by the Higher Educational Institutions, adopt an inter-disciplinary approach in learning, and make the best use of the expertise of available faculty. Under CBCS, the requirement for awarding a degree/ diploma/ certificate is prescribed in terms of number of credits to be completed by the students. AUS TDC CBCS REGULATIONS 2018 3
7.8. Programmes of S tu d y: Programmes of Study means an educational programme under a set of required number of semesters leading to award of a Degree, Diploma etc.
7.9. Duration of Programme: Duration of Programme means the period of time required for the completion of the programme.
7.10. Semester: Semester is the period of academic activities into which an academic year is divided pertaining to academic activities of a year. Depending upon duration, each academic year ts divided into two semesters - Odd and Even Semesters. Two consecutive (odd and even) semesters constitute one Academic Year. Total teaching days In each semester is divided into 3 (three) components— (0 classroom lectures, (ii) tutorials consisting of elaborate instructions on specific topics from classroom lectures and (Hi) laboratory or field exercises in which the student has to do experiments or other practical works respectively.
7.11. End Semester Examination (ESE): End Semester Examination Is the examination conducted by the University at the end of each semester.
7.12. Course: Course in simple terms corresponds to the word 'subject' used currently - an essential constituent of a programme of study. The courses should define learning objectives and learning outcomes. A course may be designed to comprise of lectures/ tutorials/ laboratory-work/ field-work/ outreach-activities/ dissertation/ project-work/ vocational training/ seminars/ assignments/ presentations etc., or a combination of some of them. Courses in a programme of study may be of 4 (four) types viz.,
1. Core,
2. Elective,
3. Dissertation/ Project Work and
4. Ability Enhancement Courses.
7.12.1. Core Course: This is the course which is to be compulsorily studied by a student as a core requirement to complete a programme in a specific discipline of study. The purpose of keeping Core Course In a programme of study is to ensure that all the institutions follow a minimum common curriculum so that each institution adheres to common minimum standard. Also, the course designed for papers under this category aim to cover the basics that a student is expected to imbibe In that particular discipline. Language Course (English/ Hindi/ MIL) are treated as Core Courses.
7.12.2. Elective Courses: Generally, a course which can be chosen from a pool of courses and which may be very specific or specialized or advanced or supportive to the discipline/ subject of study or which provides an extended scope, or which enables an exposure to some other discipline/ subject/ domain or nurtures the students' proficiency/skill is called an Elective Course and these are of 3 (three) kinds: AUS TDC CBCS REGULATIONS 2018
1. Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) Courses; Elective courses offered under the main discipline of study are referred to as Discipline Specific Elective Courses.
2. Generic Elective (G E) Courses: An elective course chosen from an unrelated discipline/subject, with an intention to seek exposure beyond disciplirte/s of choice is called a Generic Elective. The purpose of this category of courses is to offer the students the option to explore disciplines of interest beyond the choices they make in Core and Discipline Specific Elective Courses. A Core Course offered in a programme of study may be treated as a Generic Elective Course, that is, a core course, offered in a subject, may be treated as a Generic Elective by another subject.
3. Additional GE Course (AGE): A student may take one more Generic Elective Course as an "Additional Generic Elective Course" (AG E). This additional course shall be treated as GE Course in all respects but performance under such additional course shall N OT be considered for calculation of SGPA/ CGPA/ Award of Degree. The purpose of this category of course is to provide students a wider option to supplement their studies of a Core Course. There shall be equal weightage of CCA for the "Additional GE Course" (AG E).
7.12.3. Dissertation/ Project Work: Dissertation/ Project Work is considered as a special course Involving application of knowledge in solving/ analyzing /exploring a real-life situation/ difficult problem. A Dissertation/ Project Work is an optional paper and may be given in lieu of a Discipline Specific Elective (D S E).
7.12.4. Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC): AEC are of two kinds:
1. Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC) are the compulsory courses based upon the content that leads to knowledge enhancement. These are mandatory for all disciplines
2. Skill Enhancement Courses (SECs) are the compulsory valuebased and/or skill-based aimed at providing hands-on-training, skills, etc. The main purpose of these courses is to provide students life-skills in hands-on mode so as to increase their employability.
7.13. Unit; A topic within a course is treated as a Unit.
7.14. Course Number: Course Number shall be an alphanumeric-code for semester-wise representation of a particular course of different kinds namely Core, Language, Elective, Dissertation/ Project Work and Ability Enhancement Courses under a programme of study.
7.15. Paper Code: Paper Code shall be an alphanumeric-code for semester-wise representation of different papers of a course. AUS TDC CBCS REGULATIONS 2018
7.16. Credit (C R ): A unit by which the course work is measured. It determines the number of hours of instructions required per week. 'Credit' refers to the weightage given to a course, usually in terms of the number of instructional hours per week assigned to it. Credits assigned for a single course always pay attention to how many hours it would take for an average learner to complete a single course successfully,
7.17. Credit Point (C P ); Credit Point is the product of Grade Point and number of Credit for a course, thus, CP * GP x CR.
7.18. Grade Point (G P ); Grade Point is a numerical weight allotted to each Grade Letter on a 10-point scale.
7.19. Letter Grade (L G ) ; Letter Grade is an index of the performance of students in a said paper of a particular course. Grades are denoted by letters O, A + , A, B + , B, C, P, F and Ab. A student obtaining Grade F / Grade Ab shall be considered failed/ absent and, will be required to appear in the subsequent ESE. 7.20. Continuous and Comprehensive Assessment (CCA): CCA is a parameter to assess learners' performance continuously and comprehensively internally by the colleges throughout the semester. It is also known as Internal Assessment
7.21. Relative Grading System (RGS): RGS is a method of calculation for awarding overall grades for a course or a programme of study. The relative grading (R G S) is based on the distribution (usually normal distribution) of marks obtained by all the students of the course and the grades are awarded based on a cut-off marks or percentile.
7.22. Absolute Grading System (AG S): AGS is a method of calculation for awarding overall grades for a course or a programme of study. Under the absolute grading (AG S), the marks are converted to grades based on pre determined class intervals. AUS TDC CBCS REGULATIONS 2018 6
7.23. Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA): SGPA is a measure of performance of work done in a semester. It Is the ratio of total credit points secured by a student in various courses registered In a semester and the total course credits taken during that semester.
7.24. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): CGPA is a measure of overall cumulative performance of a student over all the semesters. The CGPA is the ratio of total credit points secured by a student in various courses and the sum of the total credits of all courses in all the semesters.
7.25. 'Words and expressions' used but not defined in this Regulation shall have the same/ similar meanlng/s assigned to them in the Assam University Acts/ Statutes/ Ordinances.
8. PROGRAMME OF STUDY UNDER CBCS*. The programme of study to be called as Three-year Degree Course (TD C ) under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and in short TDC (CBCS), shall be a 6-semester programme of 3 (three) years' duration and, there shall be 2 (two) programmes under TD C (CBCS) namely, TDC (CBCS) Honours and TDC (CBCS) General.
9. ELIG IB ILITY FOR AWARD OF DEGREE: A registered student shall be eligible for the award of Bachelor's Degree only if he/she has undergone the TD C (CBCS) programme of study In a college affiliated to the University for a period of not less than three academic years and successfully completes all the examinations of all six semesters prescribed for the programme. An eligible candidate, on successful completion of the TD C (CBCS) Honours programme by passing all the papers of the prescribed courses as per the Course Structure with minimum of 148 credits may be awarded any one of the following Bachelor's (Honours) Degree: B.A. (Honours), B.Sc. (Honours), B.Com. (Honours), B.C.A. (Honours), and, those under TD C (CBCS) General programme may be awarded any one of the following Bachelor's Degree on successful completion of the programme by passing all the papers of the prescribed courses as per the concerned Course Structure with minimum of 132 credits: B. A ., B. Sc., B.Com ., B.C.A. and B.B.A. Each programme shall follow specific courses, papers, credits and marks requirements as per the Course Structures mentioned under Rule 19.
10. DURATION OF PROGRAMME OF STUDY:
10.1. Each academic year of the TD C (CBCS) programme of study shall be divided into two semesters. The first academic year shall comprise the first and second semesters, the second academic year the third and fourth semesters and, the third academic year the fifth and sixth semesters respectively. 10.2. The odd and even semesters shall consist of the period as per the Academic Calendar published by the University.
10.3. Maximum duration for the completion of a TD C (CBCS) programme of study is 5 (five) years at a stretch from the date of admission { he., 10 (ten) consecutive End Semester Examinations) as per the *Guidelines on Determination of a Uniform Span Period within which a Student may be allowed to Qualify for a Degree" published by UGC dated October 15, 2015. This criterion shall be strictly adhered to while determining the eligibility to appear in any ESE for Arrear Paper/s, and Betterment Examination.
11. ELIG IB ILITY FOR ADMISSION:
11.1. Candidates for admission to the FIRST SEMESTER of TD C (CBCS) shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary (+ 2 ) or its equivalent Examinations conducted by any recognized University/ Board/ Council, which shall be treated as qualifying examination.
Provided that candidates for admission into the specific programme of study shall also possess such other qualifying conditions as may be prescribed by the University or concerned college.
11.2. No candidate shall be admitted to FIRST SEMESTER of TD C (CBCS) programme of study, unless he/she has passed the qualifying examination.
11.3. No candidate shall be allowed to offer Botany/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Physics/ Zoology as one of the course/ subject unless he/she has passed the concerned subject in the qualifying examination.
11.4. In case of selection of eligible candidates for admission to any TD C (CBCS) programme of study, the colleges shall follow the Statutory Reservation Policy of the Government including the Rules and Regulations prescribed therein.
12. ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION TO FIRST SEMESTER:
12.1. A learner shall get admission in the First Semester of TD C (CBCS) taught in a college and admission to First Semester of TD C (CBCS) shall be governed by the admission criteria and, the Rules and Regulations mentioned in the prospectus published by the college.
12.2. A candidate shall register himself/ herself with Assam University during his/ her admission to First Semester as a registered student of the University through the prescribed Application Form and by paying requisite amount of Registration Fee.
12.3. Previously registered students of other Board/ Council/ Higher Educational Institution/ University shall have to submit Original Copy of Migration Certificate while applying for registration under Assam University, Silchar except for those students who have passed the last examination from Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council, Guwahati, Assam. 12.4. A registered student under TD C (CBCS) programme of study of the University shall N O T be allowed to continue simultaneously— the same or the other Programme of Study (Degree/ Diploma/ Certificate) of this University or other Universities including any Higher Educational Institutions except Career Oriented Programme/ Skill Development/ Vocational Courses/ or the similar if the courses are conducted by the parent college.
12.5. All admission and registration of the candidate shall be completed as per the schedule of programme for the purpose published by the University.
12.6. In the TD C (CBCS) programme of study, a student SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CHANGE either from TD C (CBCS) Honours to TDC (CBCS) General or vice-versa during any semester of the programme. However, Principal of a college with the recommendation of concerned HoD/s may allow a First semester student once for such change before submission of Registration Forms to the University. Change of course/ subject may be allowed as per similar procedure within stipulated period as mentioned herein. Previous attendance shall be taken Into consideration In such cases. Colleges may design a form for the students to apply for such change, and the last date of submission of such form be announced by notification.
12.7. To drop Honours or to change course/subject after the stipulated period as _ mentioned above, a student may get re-admitted in First semester, subject to the availability of seats as per Rule 12 to continue with his/her studies in TD C (CBCS) programme of study.
12.8. Registration of newly admitted students under TD C (CBCS) shall be governed by the Assam University Rules for the same.
12.9. List of admitted candidates and all Registration Forms submitted by candidates shall be despatched to the University along with total amount of Registration Fees on or before the scheduled dates as notified in the programme for the purpose published by the University for each and every academic year.
13. RE-ADMISSION UNDER PREVIOUS REGISTRATION NUMBER:
13.1. A student once registered under Assam University for TD C (CBCS) programme of study, shall NOT be allowed to get admission with new Registration Number— however, the student may get admission in the FIRST semester of TDC (CBCS) in the same college or in other colleges during scheduled time of admission observing all admission formalities (submission of form, payment of fees etc.), subject to the availability of seats/ TD C (CBCS) programme of study and, such admission shall be considered as re-admission under previous Registration Number of the University. 13.2. For re-admitted students the maximum duration for the completion of the programme of study shall be the same as per Rule 10.3., i.e., 5 (five) years from the date of re-admission.
13.3. Such re-admission in the FIRST semester of TDC (CBCS) shall be governed by the latest eligibility criteria/ course structure/ syllabi prescribed by the University/ College,
13.4. Such re-admitted student shall forfeit previous marks under CCA and shall have to attend all classes (Theory/Tutorial/Rractical) and appear Unit Tests/ End semester Examinations as a regular student. There shall NOT be any provision for private or casual category under CBCS.
14. ADMISSION TO HIGHER SEMESTER AFTER END SEMESTER EXAMINATION:
14.1. Admission to immediate next higher semester (11/ III/ IV/ V/ VI semester) after each End Semester Examination (ESE) shall be mandatory for each and every student with or without "Arrear Paper/s*. Such admission procedure shall start after the completion of ESE and shall be completed well before the commencement of classes for the respective semester! Procedure including the schedule of such admissions shall be notified by the concerned college for each and every semester.
14.2. A student who fails to get admission in any higher semester for any valid reason may get admission in immediate next similar semester (odd or even).
15. ADMISSION ON TRANSFER: Admission on transfer shall be guided by the Rules/Regulations/Guidelines of the University.
16. CREDIT UNDER CBCS: The Assam University shall follow the following UGC Guidelines to adopt relation of credit to Lecture-Tutorial-Practical (L -T -P ): 1 (one) Lecture (L ) = 1 (one) hour duration per week = 1 (one) Credit 1 (one) Tutorial ( T ) = 1 (one) hour duration per week = 1 (one) Credit 1 (one) Practical (P ) *2 (two) hours duration per week = 1 (one) Credit
17. CREDIT REQUIREMENTS: Minimum credit requirement to complete the TDC (CBCS) Honours Programme shall be 148 and that under the TDC (CBCS) General Programme shall be 132.
18. ATTENDANCE:
18.1. Each student shall have to attend a minimum of 7 5% Lectures/ Tutorials/ Practical classes In each paper of all the courses as per the recommended Course Structure of the concerned programme of study. 19. COURSE STRUCTURE; There shall be only two programmes of study under TD C (CBCS) namely, TD C (CBCS) Honours and TD C (CBCS) General Programmes.

20. RESTRICTION/ RECOMMENDATION IN COMBINATION OF COURSES:
20.1. Students shall NOT be allowed to choose the following combination of courses:
1. Arabic/ Assamese/ Bengali/ Education/ English/ Journalism ft Mass Communication/ Hindi/ History/ Manipur!/ Persian/ Philosophy/ Political Science/ Sanskrit/ Sociology with Biotechnology/ Botany/ Chemistry/ Computer Science/ Ecology & Environmental Science/ Geology/ Industrial Fish & Fisheries/ Physics/ Zoology as Core/ Generic Elective or vice-versa in both TDC (CBCS) Honours and TD C (CBCS) General.
2. Same course (subject) as Core Course and Generic Elective (G E ) Course.
3. Either any two Language Courses or any two Classical Courses either as Core & Generic Elective (G E ) Course or vice-versa. (Language Courses: Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, English, Hindi, Hmar, Manipuri, Mizo, Nepali, Urdu and Classical Courses: Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit)
20.2. Additional Generic Elective Course (AGE) Course may be allowed for the following combinations: - t . Mathematics as one of the GE and Chemistry/ Computer Science/ Economics/ Geology/ Physics/ Statistics as AGE.
2. C he m istry as one of th e GE and Botany/ Ecology & Environmental Science/ Bio-Technology/ Zoology as AGE.
3. More combinations to allow AGE Course may be recommended by the affiliated colleges.
20.2. In admission to PG programmes of different courses, number of Indian Universities prefer students with specific subject/s as elective subject/s in their UG level— so, the University recommends:
1. To take Mathematics as GE Course by those students who prefer to study PG in Chemistry/ CS/ Economics/ Physics/ Statistics;
2. To take Chemistry as GE Course by those students who prefer to study PG in Botany/ Ecology/ Geology/ Zoology.
3. More GE Courses to be preferred may be recommended by the affiliated colleges.
21. ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES:
21.1. UGC recommended for compulsory Implementation of Environmental Studies for under-graduate course of atl branches of Higher education in all Universities / Colleges / Institutes of India as per the directives of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. Assam University shall honour the recommendation of UGC and shall implement the teaching of Environmental Studies for all UG level courses- in the University and colleges affiliated by the University.
21.2. Environmental Studies under AECC being a Compulsory Course, all the Principals of colleges/ Head of Institutions shall make necessary arrangement for teaching Environmental Studies with competent teachers In their respective colleges. It is mandatory for all colleges to have teachers to teach Environmental Studies. AUS TDC CBCS REGULATIONS 2018
22. EXAMINATION AND ASSESSMENT/ SCHEME OF EXAMINATION:
22.1. Continuous and Comprehensive Assessment (CCA)
22.1.1. Continuous and Comprehensive Assessment (C C A ) shall be done by the college continuously and comprehensively for all students throughout the semester, Paper-wise assessment under CCA shall be done for all papers [except AECC and SEC).
22.1.2. Unit Tests and Class Attendance shall be the 2 (tw o) different components under CCA and marks to be awarded as per APPENDIX - C.
22.1.3. Guidelines for Unit Tests and Class Attendance shall be as per the Rules mentioned in APPENDIX-C.
22.2. End Semester Examination (ESE)
22.2.1. There shail a total of 6 (six) End Semester Examinations (ESEs) - one each for Semesters I, II, III, IV, V and VI during TD C (CBCS) programme of study. All these 6 (six) ESEs shall be conducted by the University as per the Schedule/ Programme published for each odd and even semesters.
22.2.2. Duration of Examination (ESE) for each theory paper shall be of as per the Rules mentioned under APPENDIX-A. For Practical Courses, it shall be as per prescribed syllabus.
22.2.3. Full Marks and Pass Marks in each paper of theory and practical courses shall strictly be followed as per APPENDICES - HOI to H l l . Pass Marks is kept at 4 0 % of allotted full marks in each theory/ practical course.
22.2.4. The following few papers of DSC and GE Courses of BA and BSc programmes shall have the same syllabus contents:

22.2.5. A student shall be declared to have PASSED the Three-year Degree Course under Choice based Credit System, TD C (CBCS) either in the TD C (CBCS) Honours Programme or TD C (CBCS) General Programme provided he/she has passed all the 6 (six) semesters and in all the papers of each semester.
22.2.6. Assam University shall apply Absolute Grading System (AGS) to assess learners' performance for the TD C (CBCS) programme of study. Details of Grading System that to be followed by the University shall be as per APPENDIX - G. AUS TDC CBCS REGULATIONS 2018 14

26.1. ARREAR PAPER/ PAPERS: A paper of any course will be treated as “Arrear Paper" when a student “failed to pass (F )" / “remained absent (Ab)" In that paper of any End Semester Examination (ESE), and In the Grade Card such an Arrear Paper will be shown as “Yet to Pass: Paper Code." However, a student with more than 5 (five) "Arrear Papers" of all the previous semesters (First, Second, Third and Fourth semesters) shall NOT be allowed to appear in the 6th ESE. This clause be applied exclusively for the students appearing in the 6<th ESE. Marks scored in CCA for which the student appears as an Arrear Paper shall be carried over for declaring the result of concerned Arrear Paper as per the Rules mentioned under 22.1.3. A student with an Arrear Paper in any semester shall NOT be eligible for determining the Merit Positions / Ranking / Gold Medalist. RE-CHECK: Re-checking of answer scripts of theory papers of any ESE to a maximum of three papers per semester may be allowed by the University only for those candidates who have obtained Grade/s in the concerned paper/s above 3.5 but below 5.6. In re-checking of marks, only posting and totaling of marks shall be checked. Interested students may apply for re- checking of answer-scripts of any ESE in the prescribed format along with original copy of the Grade Card and requisite fees within 15 (fifteen) days from the date of publication of results of the concerned ESE to the COE through the Principal of college. RE-EVALUATION: Re-evaluation of answer scripts of theory papers of any ESE may be allowed by the University only on the condition that the re-evaluated result shall be accepted by the student, even if the marks/ grade decreases after re-evaluation. A new Grade Card containing re-evaluated marks/ grades cancelling the earlier one shall be issued by the University. Interested students may apply for re-evaluation of answer-scripts of any ESE in the prescribed format along with requisite fees and original copy of the Grade Card within 15 (fifteen) days from the date of publication of results of the concerned ESE to the COE through the Principal of college. BETTERMENT EXAMINATION: A student may be allowed to appear in Betterment Examination in any 1 (one) theory paper per semester in which the student has secured Grade

27. A student who opts to appear in Betterment Examination in any paper under the previously mentioned provision, may be allowed to appear in a paper only at the immediate next similar End Semester Examination (ESE) as per the following list (Table: 7), only on the condition that the Semester in which Betterment Examination is opted by the student to appear falls within the stipulated span of completion of his/ her programme of study, that is, fails within 5 (five) years at a stretch from the date of his/ her admission as per rule 10.3.: Table: 7 Semester for the which the paper is prescribed ESE In which a candidate may appear under Betterment Examination for that paper First/ Third/ Fifth semester Immediate next Odd Semester Second/ Fourth/ Sixth Immediate next Even Semester As this provision is allowed to improve the result, so, the student will be awarded better Grade secured by the student in the previous and betterment examinations. 2. to appear in Betterment Examination who have migrated from Assam University.
3. to appear in any Betterment Examination if the Semester in which Betterment Examination is opted by the student to appear does NOT fall within the stipulated span of completion of his/ her programme of study, that is, falls within 5 (five) years at a stretch from the date of his/ her admission as per rule 10.3. Interested students may apply for Betterment Examination in the prescribed format along with requisite fees and original copy of the Grade Card within 15 (fifteen) days from the date of publication of results of the concerned ESE to the COE through the Principal of college. Whatsoever the overall performance (CGPA) of a student, he/she shall NOT be eligible for determining the Merit Positions/ Ranking/ Goid Medalist, if the student appears in any paper under Betterment Examination. UNFAIR-MEANS IN EXAMINATIONS: Rules/ Regulations/ Guidelines to be adopted under TD C (CBCS) programme of Study to curb unfairmeans in the examination shall follow the Rules and Regulations of Assam University for the same and shall be applied accordingly. 31. GRADE CARDS/ DEGREE CERTIFICATES: Henceforth, under CBCS, the University shall Issue printed GRADE CARDS instead of Marks Sheets as per the existing Rules of issuance of Marks Sheets after the declaration of the result of each End Semester Examination (ES E) to each candidate, who have applied for the concerned ESE— except "RA“ and “expelled" candidates. GRADE CARD will display the course details, marks secured, calculated value of Credit Points, along with percentage of marks, SGPA of each semester and overall percentage of marks with CGPA earned based on overall six semesters. The University shall issue as per the existing Rules the printed Degree Certificate only to those registered students of the University who have successfully completed the TD C (CBCS) programme od study. The University may issue the Official Transcript containing Marks secured, Credit Points, SGPA, CGPA scored by candidates only to those students who have successfully completed the TD C (CBCS) programme of study under the University and have applied for same in the prescribed form along with requisite fees. Procedure to obtain the Official Transcript shall be governed by the Rules/Regulations/Guidelines of AUS for issuance of the same. MERIT POSITIONS / RANKING / GOLD MEDALLIST: _ Determining Merit Positions/ Ranking/ Gold Medallist shall follow the Rules/ Regulations/ Guidelines of Assam University for the same and shall be awarded accordingly. The following category of students shall NOT be included in the list of Candidates for the Award of Merit Positions/ Ranking/ Gold Medallist —
1. who have appeared in any ESE with Arrear Paper/s as per rule 23 Including those who have to appear in any ESE with Arrears Papers as per rule APX.C.3.4. and or;
2. who have passed the TD C (CBCS) with “RA" in any ESE and or;
3. who have been EXPELLED in any ESE and or;
4. who have appeared in any paper under Betterment Examination. COUR5E-WISE DISTRIBUTION OF LTP/ FULL MARKS/ PASS MARKS: Course-wise distribution of Lectures/Tutorlals/Practicals for each semester. Full Marks/ Pass Marks and Duration of End Semester Examination (ESE) for each course shall be as per APPENDIX - A. U N ITIZ A TIO N OF PAPERS: There shall be 5 (five) Units in each paper of theory courses having equal weightage for teaching/ evaluation. 32. COURSE NUMBERS: Assam University shall adopt the alphanumeric-code for the Course Number of a Course under TDC (CBCS) programme as per APPENDIX - D.
33. PAPER CODES: Assam University shall follow the Paper Codes as per APPENDIX - E to indicate different papers to be taught in different semesters under TD C (CBCS) programme of study. „ . .
34. DISSERTATION/ PROJECT WORK:
34.1. Guidelines to Dissertation/ Project Work:
34.1.1. A Dissertation/ Project Work is an optional course and may be opted in lieu * of a DSE Course in the 6th semester and its evaluation shall be done in the 6th End Semester Examination (ESE).
34.1.2. 5tudents shall undertake the project work related to the concerned subject only under the guidance of teacher(s) as supervisor from the department. A teacher can guide more than one group, if necessary. Dissertation/ Project Work can be experimental, theoretical or both. No two groups in the same institution be permitted to do same problem.
34.1.3. After the completion of Dissertation/ Project Work but before "Report Writing", an abstract/ a synopsis of the same shall have to be submitted to the Supervisor for his/ her recommendation to write theReport.
34.1.4. The Dissertation/ Project Work is a group activity; maximum number of students being limited to 5 (five). However, each student shall prepare and submit the Abstract/ Synopsis and Report separately and, each student must present the Report before the Examiners at the ESE during evaluation. Report may be written as per the format shown In APPENDIX - F.
34.2. Assessment of Dissertation/ Project Work:
34.2.1. Report of Dissertation/ Project Work be submitted during the End Semester Examination (E S E ) and presentation of the same be done in front of both Internal and External Practical Examiners. Both the examiners shall assess the report and award marks. Full Marks and Pass Marks for Dissertation/ Project Work shall be 100 and 40 respectively. 35. PUBLICATION OF SYLLABI: Trie University shall publish in the form of book/ books the SYLLABI of all Courses along with approved Course Structures.
36. TRANSITORY PROVISION: Notwithstanding anything contained in these Regulations, the Vice- Chancellor , Assam University shall have the power to provide by order any number of Administrative Orders/ Circulars/ Notifications for the smooth and successful Implementation of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in the Under Graduate level of education In the affiliated colleges under Assam University.
37. AMENDMENTS: The University shall have authority from time to time to make, issue, amend, and rescind such rules, sub-rules prescribed under the Clauses provided in this Regulation as It may deem necessary or appropriate.
38. DOUBTS AND DISPUTES: If any doubt/ dispute arises as to the interpretation, Intention or application of any of the provisions of these Regulations or any matter not covered by these Regulations, the decision of the Executive Council of Assam University on that event shall be final and binding.
