1. ('1) This Act may be called the East Punjab stort tile and Enumeration of Dwellings Act, 1948. extent.
(2) It extends to the whole of the 3[Union Territory of Chandigarh].
2. In this Act “dwelling house” means a building or structure used or constructed or adapted to be used wholly or principally for human habitation and includes any part of 2 house where that part is separately occupied for such habitation.

8. No prosecution under this Act shall be instituted jon required except with the previous sanction of the ![Central Govern- fm&'fi"“ ment] or of an authority empowered in this behalf by the 1[Centra1 Government].
9. Nothing in this Act shall be deemed to prevent Operation of other any person from being prosecuted under any other law e e G for any act or omission which constitutes an offence under this Act :
Provided that no such prosecution shall be instituted except with the previous sanction referred to in section 8.
10. No court inferior to that of a Magistrate of the Jurisdicton. Second Class shall try, whether under this Act, or under any other law, anything which constitutes an offence under this Act.
11. All records or registers made under this Act or Records of emthe rules made thereunder shall be deemed to be public mz*:{;mm documents within the meaning of the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
