Section 2: Definition

(1) In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires,-

(a) “Act” means the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 (No. 1 of 2010);

(b) "Competent Authority" means Joint Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India;

(c) “Controller” means the officer appointed as a Controller under Section 14 of the Act;

(d) “Government Approved Test Centre” means a test centre, which has been approved by the Central Government to undertake verification of weights or measures specified in these rules;

(e) “Principal Officer” means the officer who is in-charge of the Government Approved Test Centre;

(f) “Schedule” means Schedule appended to these rules.

(2) Words and expressions used herein and not defined but defined in the Act shall have the same meaning as respectively assigned to them in the Act.
