Section 5: Standard Weight and Remedy allowed

Coinage of One Rupee, Two Rupees, Five Rupees, Ten Rupees and Twenty Rupees Rules, 2019Central Rules · 2011

The standard weight of the coins of the above denomination and the remedy allowed in making of such coins shall be as specified in the Second Schedule to these rules.

FIRST SCHEDULE (See rule 4)

(a) ONE RUPEE:

(i) OBVERSE:

The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar with the legend “स9यमवेस9यमवेस9यमवेस9यमवे जयतेजयतेजयतेजयत”े inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारतभारतभारतभारत” in Hindi and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English.

(ii) REVERSE:

The face of the coin shall bear denominational value “1” in the international numerals. The Rupee symbol “`” shall be shown above the denominational value. The design of grains depicting the agricultural dominance of the country is flanked on the left periphery of the coin. The top right and bottom right peripheries shall bear the word “एकएकएकएक )पया)पया)पया)पया” in Hindi and “ONE RUPEE” in English. The year of minting in international numerals shall be shown on centre of left periphery of the coin.

(b) TWO RUPEES:

(iii) OBVERSE:

The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar with the legend “स9यमवेस9यमवेस9यमवेस9यमवे जयतेजयतेजयतेजयते” inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारतभारतभारतभारत” in Hindi and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English.

(iv) REVERSE:

The face of the coin shall bear denominational value “2” in the international numerals. The Rupee symbol “`” shall be shown above the denominational value. The design of grains depicting the agricultural dominance of the country is flanked on the left periphery of the coin. The top right and bottom right peripheries shall bear the word “दोदोदोदो :पये:पये:पये:पये” in Hindi and “TWO RUPEES” in English. The year of minting in international numerals shall be shown on centre of left periphery of the coin.

(c) FIVE RUPEES:

The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar with the legend “स9यमवेस9यमवेस9यमवेस9यमवे जयतेजयतेजयतेजयत”े inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारतभारतभारतभारत” in Hindi and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English.

(vi) REVERSE:

The face of the coin shall bear denominational value “5” in the international numerals. The Rupee symbol “`” shall be shown above the denominational value. The top right and bottom right peripheries shall bear the word “पाँचपाँचपाँचपाँच )पये)पये)पये)पये” in Hindi and “FIVE RUPEES” in English. The year of minting in international numerals shall be shown on centre of left periphery of the coin.

(d) TEN RUPEES:

The year of minting in international numerals shall be shown on centre of left periphery of the coin.

(e) TWENTY RUPEES:

The face of the coin shall bear denominational value “20” in the international numerals. The Rupee symbol “`” shall be shown above the denominational value. The design of grains depicting the agricultural dominance of the country is flanked on the left periphery of the coin. The top right and bottom right peripheries shall bear the word “बीसबीसबीसबीस :पये:पये:पये:पये” in Hindi and “TWENTY RUPEES” in English.

The year of minting in international numerals shall be shown on centre of left periphery of the coin.

6.57 grams to 6.91grams Ten Rupees 7.74 grams Outer Ring (Nickel Brass): 1/100th plus or minus both for Copper and Zinc, that is to say, Copper content could vary from 74% to 76% and Zinc content from 19% to 21% and 1/200 th plus or minus for Nickel, that is to say Nickel content could vary from 4.5% to 5.5%.

Centre Piece (Nickel Silver):

1/100th plus or minus both for Copper and Zinc , that is to say, Copper content could vary from 64% to 66% and Zinc content from 14% to 16% and 1/100th plus or minus for Nickel, that is to say Nickel content could vary from 19% to 21%.
