(1) This Regulation may be called the Dadra and Nagar Haveli (Administration) Regulation, 1988.
(2) It extends to the whole of the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
(3) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Gazette of India, appoint.
2. In this Regulation, unless the context otherwise requires,—
(a) "Administrator" means the Administrator of the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli appointed by the President under article 239 of the Constitution;

(b) "Collector" means the Collector of Dadra and Nagar Haveli;
(c) "Official Gazette" means the Dadra and Nagar Havell Gazette';
(d) "Panchayat'' means a Panchayat established under section 3 of the Dadra and'Nagar Haveli Village Panchayats Regulation, 1965;
(e) "Pradesh Council" means the Pradesh Council constituted under section 3;
(f) "Sarpanch" shall have meaning assigned to it in the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Village Panchayats Regulation, 1985;
(g) "Union territory" means the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli; !
(7i) "Varishta Panchayat" means the Varishta Panchayat in existence immediately before the 11th day of August, 1961 as reconstituted from time to time in accordance with the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Village Panchayats Regulation, 1965;
