GROUNDNUT GRADING AND MARKING RULES Short title and application.—(l) These rules may be called the Groundnut (Grading and Marking) Rules, 1965.
(2) They shall apply to groundnut pods and groundnut kernels (Arachis hypogaea) produced in India.
Definitions-In these rules,»
(1) . “Agricultural Marketing Adviser” means the Agricultural Marketing Adviser to the Government of India;
(2) “Schedule” means a schedule appended to these rules.
Grade designation.— The grade designations to indicate the quality of groundnuts (pods and kernels) shall be as set out in Schedules II to VII.
Definition of quality.— The quality indicated by the respective grade designations shall be as set out against each grade designation in columns 2 to 7 of schedules II to V and columns 2 to 9 of Schedule VI and VII.
Grade designation mark.- The grade designation mark shall consist of a label specifying the grade designation and bearing a design (consisting of an outline map of India with the word “AGMARK” and the figure of the rising sun with the words “Produce of India” and (WWII 68117:) resembling the one as set out in schedule 1.
Method of marking—(I) The grade designation mark shall be securely affixed to each container in a manner approved by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser and shall clearly show the following particulars, namely;
(a) Grade designation.
(b) Variety or trade name.
(e) Net weight.

(d) Date of packing.
(2) An authorised packer may, afier obtaining the prior approval of the Agricultural Marketing Adviser, mark his private trade mark on a container in manner approved by the said Ofi‘icer, provided that the private trade mm'k does not represent quality or grade of groundnut (pods and kernels) different from that indicated by the grade designation mark affixed to the container in accordance with these rules.
Method of packing.—(l)0nly sound clean and dry containers made of jute, cloth paper, polythene or tin shall be used for packing.
They shall be flee from any insect infestation or fungus contamination and also free from any undesirable smell.
(2) The containers shall be securely closed and sealed in manner approved by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser.
(3) Each package shall contain groundnut (pods or kernels) of one grade designation only.
Special conditions of Certificate of Authorisation.- In addition to the conditions specified in rule 4 of the general Grading and Marking Rules, 1937 the following-special conditions shall be observed by packers to the satisfaction of the Agricultural Marketing Adviser namely:-
(1) An authorised packer shall make such arrangements for testing Groundnut (pods and kernels), as may be prescribed by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser.
(2) An authorised packer shall provide all such facilities as may be necessary to the Inspecting Officers duly authorised by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser in this behalf.

3. “Shrivelled and immature pods” are those pods which are imperfectly developed.

EXPLANATION:
1. “Foreign matter” means pieces of particles of any extraneous substance other than groundnut kernels and includes unshelled nuts, if any, which have to be shelled.
“Damaged kernels” are those kernels which are internally discolored, discoloration materially affecting the quality.
“Slightly damaged kernels” are those kernels. which are discolored only externally or party without afi'ecting the quality.
“Shrivelled and immature kernels” are those kernels which are imperfectly developed.V‘F'P’E" “Split kernels” are those kernels broken into two halves/lengthwise and “broken kernels” are those kernels which are smaller than splits but bigger than Nooks.
6. “Nooks’ means small parts ofkernels, measuring 1/16“ or less of a whole kernel.
