(1) Except in the case of the constitution of the Council for the first tune, the term of office of a member of the Council, other than the ex-officio member, whether elected or nominated, shall be a period of five years commencing on Constitution and incorporation of Council.

The Gujarat Veterinary Practitioners Act 1969 6 of 21 the date of the publication of his name in the Official Gazette under subsection (6) of section 3:
Provided that, the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, extend from time to time the term of office of the members of the Council for a further period not exceeding two years in the aggregate.
(2) The term of an outgoing member shall, notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (5) of section 3 and sub-section (7) of this section, be deemed to extend to, and expire with, the day immediately preceding the day on which the name of the successor of such member is published under subsection (6) of section 3.
(3) An outgoing member shall be eligible for re-election or re-nomination.
