(1) The Fire Officer or any other officer authorized by the Director in this behalf may enter and inspect any building, the construction of which was completed on or before the commencement of this Act or any building which was under construction on such date in which such inspection appears to be necessary for ascertaining the adequacy of fire prevention and life safety measures.

(2) The Fire Officer or any other officer authorised by the Director shall after inspection of the building under sub-section (1) and after taking into consideration-

(i) the provision under which the plan of said building was sanctioned;

(ii) the conditions imposed, if any, by the local authority at the time of sanction of the plan of said building; and

(iii) the minimum standards for fire prevention and fire safety measures specified for such building as per provisions of Part-IV of the National Building Code, 1983 as revised from time to time, shall submit a report of inspection made by him to the Director or any other officer authorized by him in this behalf.

25. Whoever contravenes the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 12, without prejudice to any other action taken against him under this Act shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months or with fine which may extend to fifty thousand rupees, or with both.
