(1) The maximum penalties which may be imposed by a Nyaya Panchayat and the offences for which they may be imposed shall be as specified in the Fourth Schedule.

(2) No sentence of imprisonment, whether substantive or in default of payment of fine, shell be imposed by a Nyaya Panchayat.
73. Instead of passing any sentence, a Nyaya Panchayat may discharge, after due admonition, a youthful offender who, in the opinion of such Nyaya Panchayat, is, at the time of conviction of the offence, under the ape of sixteen vears.

74. In Inflicting any fine under section 72, a Nyaya Panchayat may direct that the whole or any portion of the fine recovered shall be applied—
(a) towards defraying the expenses properly incurred m the case by the complainant, or
(b) in giving compensation to a person for any material loss or damage caused to him by reason of the commission of the offence.

75. A Nyaya Panchayat may, if it is satisfied after enquiry that a case brought before it is false, frivolous or vexatious, order the complainant to pay the accused such compensation not exceeding rupees ten as it thinks fit.
