Section 16: Penalties.

The Ancient Monuments Preservation Act, 1977 (1920 A.d. )Union territory Act of Jammu and Kashmir · Act 5 of 1920

Any person other than the owner who destroys, removes, injures, alters, defaces or imperils, a protected monument, and any owner who destroys, removes, injures, alters, defaces or imperils a monument maintained by Government under this Act or in respect of which an agreement has been executed under section 5, and any owner or occupier who contravenes an order made under section 7, sub-section (1), shall be punishable with fine which may extend to [fifty thousand rupees], or with imprisonment which may extend to three months, or with both.
