Section 26: Constitution of Grievance Redressal Committee

(l) There shall be a Grievance Redressal Committee for one or more Municipalities as decided by the Government from time to time for redressal of grievances or resolution of the disputes of the street vendors. It is to be constituted by the Government under sub-section (1) of section 20 of the Act.

(2) The Government shall appoint—

(a) a civil judge or a Judicial Magistrate as a Chairperson ; and

(b) Two other persons as members of the Grievance Redressal Committee :

Provided that out of two other members of the committee, one shall not be below the rank of a retired Joint Municipal Commissioner of a Corporation or retired Chief Executive Officer of a Municipality in the region and the second member of the committee shall be a prominent social No. 44-b] The J&K Official Gazette, 29th Jan., 2021/9th Magha, 1942. 19 –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– worker, preferably having experience in the field of informal economy including street vending in th same region.

(3) The Chairperson and the Members of the Grievance Redressal Committee shall have tenure of three years or up to the age of sixty-five years whichever is earlier.

(4) The Government shall decide the area of jurisdiction and the headquarters of Grievance Redressal Committee.
