(1) This Ordinance may be called the Jayanti Shipping Company (Acquisition of Shares) Ordinance, 1971.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
2. In this Ordinance, unless the context otherwise requires,—
(a) "appointed day" means the date on which this Ordinance comes into force;

(b) "company" means the Jayanti Shipping Company Limited being a company as defined in the Companies Act, 1956, having its registered office at Bombay;
(c) "shareholder" means a person, who, immediately before the appointed day, was registered as a shareholder in the capital of the company;
(d) "Shipping Corporation of India" means the Shipping Corporation of India Limited, being a Government company as denned in the Companies Act, 1956, having its registered office at Bombay;
(e) words and expressions used but not defined in this Ordinance and defined in the Companies Act, 1956, shall have the meanings respectively assigned to them in that Act.
