Section 53: This rule should apply to all vessels excepting

(i) Vessels above 500 tonnes gross. These vessels shall be required to comply with requirements of Merchant Shipping (Fire Alliances) rule 1969 as applicable to ships on coastal voyages.

(ii) Hovercrafts: Requirements in respect of hovercrafts shall be specially considered by the competent officer.

(iii) Provided that these rules do not apply to the existing vessels for a period of 6 months from the date of publication of these rules or till their next annual survey whichever is early.
