After the expiration of not less than twenty four hours from the death of any person, the Municipal Commissioner or the Executive Officer may cause the corpse of such person to be burnt or buried, and the expenses thereby incurred shall be recoverable as a debt due from the heirs of the such person. In every such case, the corpse shall be disposed of, so far as may be possible, in a manner consistent with the religious tenets of the deceased.
373. Power to provide for burial of paupers free of charge - The municipality may, from time to time out of the municipal fund provide for the burial and burning of paupers free of charge within the limits of municipal area.
374. Power to license fuel shops at burning grounds -
(1) The Municipal Commissioner or the Executive Officer may from time to time grant license to persons applying for the sale at the burning grounds of fuel and other articles used for the cremation of dead bodies, and in case any such license is granted shall, prescribe a scale of rates for the sale of such articles; and any person not so licensed, who, within three hundred yards of any such burning ground, sells or offers for sale any such fuel or other articles shall be liable to fine not exceeding five thousand rupees.
(2) The Municipal Commissioner or the Executive Officer may, on good and sufficient cause revoke or withdraw any such license as he may think fit, and any person to whom any such license is granted, who charges for the sale of any such article at higher rate than the rate fixed for such article in such scale, shall, at the discretion of the Municipal Commissioner or the Executive Officer be liable to have his license cancelled and shall also be liable to fine not exceeding two thousand rupees.
