Section 5: Appointment of 1[Superintendents of Excise and Deputy Superintendents of Excise]1

(1) The State Government may appoint an officer as 1[ Superintendent of Excise]1 for a district or part of a district to exercise all or any of the powers and to perform all or any of the duties of a Deputy Commissioner in respect of the administration of this Act, either concurrently with or in subordination to the Deputy Commissioner subject to such control as the State Government may direct.

(2) The State Government may appoint such number of 1[Deputy Superintendents of Excise]1 for a district or part of a district as it thinks fit to exercise such powers and perform such duties as the State Government may direct.
