11.05.2020 NOTIFICATION In exercise, of the powers conferred on it under Sub Section (2) of Section 39 of the Cochin University of Science and Technology Act, 1986 (31 of 1986), the Syndicate at its 671st meeting held on 09.01.2020 has made the following amendments to Cochin University of Science and Technology First Statutes, 1991. His Excellency, the Chancellor has assented to the amendments on 28.03.2020 vide Letter No. GS5-886/2020 dated 17.04.2020.
AMENDMENTS TO STATUTE 16 AND 18 OF THE COCHIN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FIRST STATUTES, 1991 are as follows;
relating to various kinds of leave in the UGC regulations 2010 and amendments thereafter shall apply to teachers of the University.
Statutes Existing Provision Amendments 16 Leave: Subject to the | Leave: Subject to the modifications hereinafter | modifications hereinafter contained, the provisions| contained, the provisions relating to various kinds of leave in the UGC regulations in force or any other regulations issued by the competent authority in force shall apply to teachers of the University.
18 Head of the Department: The Syndicate shall nominate a teacher not below the rank of an Associate Professor with Ph.D or an equivalent post as prescribed by the UGC Regulations or Regulations of any Apex Authority specified for the purpose as Head of the Department according to seniority, on a rotational basis for a period of three years. It shall, however, be open to the teacher who has been nominated as the Head of the department to make a request that he/she shall be relieved of such a_ responsibility of academic reasons. In such a case the next eligible teacher will be nominated as the Head of the Department. All the members of the teaching staff shall work under the directions of the Head of the Department.
In the case of Departments which have no professor or Reader or equivalent posts prescribed by the UGC Regulations or regulations issued by any other competent authority the Syndicate shall nominate an Associate Professor or equivalent post prescribed by the UGC Regulations 2010 (Clause 4.3.0) or by the regulations issued by any other competent authority specified for the purpose.
According to seniority on a rotational basis as Head of the Department in charge till another Professor assumes charge or an Associate Professor is promoted under Career Advancement Scheme of UGC/AICTE and _ the other teachers shall work under the directions of the Head of the Department.

0) The amendments are effective from 28.03.2020, the date on which the Hon’ble Chancellor gave his assent, as required under Sub Section (5) of Section 39 of the said Act.
