2. In this Regtdaticin, unless the Context otherwise requires,—
(a) "Administrator means the AdminIstrator of the Union territory of Lekshedweep appointed by the President under article 239 of the Constltution;

fdj "district" means the distritt of Lekshadweep comprising the entire Union territory of Lalcsitedvveera;
(ej tiElectIon Commission" means the'Election CommIssion referred to in sectIon 87 of this Regulation for the Union territory of Lakshadvveep;
(f) "Finence Commission" means the Firrance Commission referred to in section 136 of this Regulation for the Union territory of Lekshatlweep;
(gl'"Grarn Sabha" means the body consisting of persont negistered in the electoraf rolis relaiing to .a viflsge (Oweep);
(h) "general election" means the election field under this Regule• tion fer the constitutlon or the reconstitution of a Panchayat efter the expiry of itsterms or otherwlse;
(1) "felentl" means one of the Islands mentioned in tha First $chedule;
"notificatIon" means a notification pdblished In the Offkiet Gazette;
(k) "octrol" means a tax on the ontry of animala or goods or both into Panchayat brea, for consurnotion, iiie or solo thorolo;
(1)-"Official Gazette" means the Lakshadweep Gazette;
(m) "Panchayet" means a Village (Dweetr) Pancheyat or District Panchayat, as the case iney be, establIshed .under the provislons of this Regulation; -
(n) ''Pancheyat arta" means the territorial arca of a Rancheyet . . .
(o) "population" matins the populatIon, os ascertained at the last preceding census of which the relevent figures have been publistted;
(P) "Prodhari" and "ijp-Predhan" mean respectively tho Pradhan;
and Up-pradhan of a Viilage (Dweep) Pancheyat
(q) "Presidentscurn-Chlef Couneellor and VIce-Possident-curn- Counsellor" mean respectivaly the President-curn-Chief—Courreellor and Vice-President-eum-Counsellor of a DIstrict Panchayet
(r) "Prescribedli meons prsiscribed rules made under this Regulation;
(s) "prescribed authority" means a person apprainted • by the AdmInIstrator to Carry out the provisions of• thli Reguletion; •
