ANNEXURE -9 Life Insurance Corporation of India (Special Area Allowance) Rules, 1988 149 ANNEXURE - 9 LIFE INSURANCE CORPORATION OF INDIA (SPECIAL AREA ALLOWANCE) RULES, 1988* G.S.R. 492(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 48 of the Life Insurance Corporation Act, 1956 (31 of 1956), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules, namely:

1. *x2 Short title, commencement and application:

(1) These rules may be called the Life Insurance Corporation of India (Special Area Allowance) Rules, 1988.

(2) They shall be deemed to have come into force on the 1st day of January, 1987.

(3) They shall apply to all the employees of the Corporation. . Special Area Allowance: An employee who is posted to any of the Special Areas set out in column 1 of the Table below shall be paid Special Area Allowance at the rate specified in the corresponding entry in column 2 of the said Table:

Provided that if at any of the places mentioned in column 1 of the said Table, Hill allowance is payable in terms of Rule 7A of the Life Insurance Corporation of India Class-I Officers (Revision of Terms and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1985 or Rule 7A of the Life Insurance Corporation of India Development Officers (Revision of Terms and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1986 or Rule 11 of the Life Insurance Corporation of India Class-III and Class-IV Employees (Revision of Terms and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1985, the employee shall be paid the Special Area Allowance, as specified herein, orthe Hill Allowance, as specified any of the aforesaid relevant rules, whicheveris higher:

Provided further that if the Special Area Allowance or the aggregate of the Special Area Allowance and the Hill Allowance payable to an employee immediately preceding the 1st day of August, [2017* was higherthan the Special Area Allowance specified, herein, he shall continue to drawthe higher of the two amountstill such date as the Special Area Allowance payable under these rules equals to or ishigher than the Special Area Allowance, or, asthe case may be the aggregate of the Hill Allowance and Special Area Allowance so drawn by him:

Provided also that an employee belonging to Class-II may indicate, within 30 days of the publication of these rules, that the Special Area Allowance payable for the period commencing from the 1st day of August, [2017]* and ending on the last day of the month immediately preceding the publication ofthese rules, shall form part of his ad hoc annual remuneration and annual remuneration of the relevant appraisal years * > K []* Principle Rules were notified in Gazette of India dated 22.4.1988 (G.S.R.
