Section 5: Appointment of Commandant, [Deputy Commandant], Assistant Commandant and Adjutant

(1) The State Government may appoint for each group a Zonal Officer who shall be a person not below the rank of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
(2) The State Government may appoint for each Battalion a Commandant [or Deputy Commandant or both] who shall be a person eligible to hold the post of a Superintendent of Police, and one or more Assistant Commandants and Adjutants, who shall be persons eligible to hold the post of an Assistant or a Deputy Superintendent.
(3) The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, the Zonal Officer, the Commandant, [the Deputy Commandant], the Assistant Commandant and the Adjutant may exercise such powers and authority as may be provided by or under this Act.
