Section 4: Superintendence vested in Governor in Council.

The Madras District Police Act, 1859Central Act · Act 24 of 1859

The superintendence of the police throughout the General Police District shall vest in, and be exercised by the Governor in council, and, except as authorized by him under the provisions of this Act, no person, Officer, or Court shall be empowered to appoint, supersede, or control any Police functionary, any Regulation Act or usage to the contrary notwithstanding.
