Section 20: Recognition of paramedical qualifications granted by Universities or paramedical institutions in India and in countries with which there is scheme of reciprocity.

(1) The paramedical qualifications granted by the Indian Medical Institutions which are included in the First Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956), shall be deemed to be the recognized paramedical qualifications for the purposes of this Act.
(2) The paramedical qualifications granted by medical institutions outside India which are included in the Second Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956), shall be deemed to be the recognized paramedical qualifications for the purposes of this Act.
(3) The Government may, after consultation with the Council, recognize any paramedical qualification for the purposes of this Act.
(4) Where the Council has refused to recommend any paramedical qualification which has been proposed for recognition, the Government after considering such application and after obtaining from the Council a report, if any, as to the reasons for any such refusal, may, by notification in the Official Gazette, amend the Schedule so as to include such qualification therein.
