(1) In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires,—
(a) “Act” means the Maharashtra Slum Areas (Improvement, Clearance and Redevelopment) Act, 1971 (Mah. XVIII of 1971);
(b) “Appeal” means an appeal made under sub-section (1A) of section 35 of the Act to the Grievance Redressal Committee;
(c) “Chairperson” means the Chairperson of the Grievance Redressal Committee constituted under the Act;
(d) “Grievance Redressal Committee” (GRC) means the Grievances Redressal Committees (Including Apex GRC) constituted under section 35 of the Act for the purpose of sub-section 35 (1A)(a) & 35 (1A)(b) of the Act; There shall be one Apex GRC and others will be called as GRC which shall be constituted by separate Notification(s) by the State Government from time to time.
(e) “Lawyer” means a Solicitor or an Advocate or any other person entitled to plead in any Court of Law, as per the provisions of the Advocates Act, 1961 (25 of 1961);
(f) “legal representative” shall means the person who in law represents the interests and estate of a deceased person and includes any person who may be authorized by the Grievance Redressal Committee to represent the deceased person in the proceedings pending before the Grievance Redressal Committee until decided otherwise by the Court of Law;
(g) “Member” means a Member of the Grievance Redressal Committee and includes the Chairperson;
(h) “Registrar” means the Registrar of the Grievance Redressal Committee so appointed from amongst the officers of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority or designated by the Grievance Redressal Committee;
(i) “Semi Government Office” means any office or authority or body or institution of Government of Maharashtra established or constituted by any law made by State Legislature or by notification issued or order made by the Government of Maharashtra, and includes any body owned, controlled or substantially financed or any non-Government organization substantially financed, directly or indirectly by funds provided by the Government of Maharashtra.
(2) Words and expressions used but not specifically defined in these rules shall have the same meanings as respectively assigned to them in the Act.
