' BE it enacted by the Legislature of Manipur in the Twenty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows:
1. (1) This Act may be called the Manipur Ancient and 1 Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment) Act, 1978.
(2) It shall come into force on the dot: the Manlpur Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1976 comes into force. - — 2. In the Preamble of the Manipur Ancient and Historical Monuments and' Archaeological Sites~ and Remains Act, 1976 (hereinafter referred to as the Principal Act), after the words “other than those” occurring in the second line, the words “declared to be” shall be inserted.

(1) In clause (a)— (D for the words “ancient monuments” occurring in thefirst line, the words “ancient monument” shall besubstituted; ,
(ii) for the word “imertion” occurring in the secondline, the word “inscription” shall be substituted.
(2) After ctause (b), the following clause (bb) shall beinserted, namely,— “(bb) ‘arehaeological officer’ means the archaeologieal oflicerappointed by the State Government for the purpose ofthis Act;”.
(3) For $3.13: (k), the following shall be substituted, namely,—“(k) ‘proteCted area’ means any site or area declared tobe protected area under section 4 for the purposeof this Act;”.
(4) For clause ( l ), the following shall be substituted, namely,— “(1) ‘protected monument’ means the monument declaredto be protectd menument unier section 4 of theAct;”.
Amendment , 4. 9. In sub-section (1) of section 19 of the Principal Act, after the word “mihing” the words and commas “quarrying, excavating, blasting or any” shall be added. ~
10. In section 21 of the Principal Act, for the word and figures “Section 24” occurring in the first line, the T/ords and figures “Sections 22 and 24” shall be substituted and for the word “Superintendent” occurring in fifth and sixth lines the words “Deputy ’ Commissioner” shall be substituted.
11. In section 22 of the Principal Act, the word “Superintendent” occurring in the penultimate line, the words “Deputy Commissioner” shall be substituted.
12. In sections 23 and 26 of the Principal Act, the words “Compulsory purchase” wherever they occur, the words “compulsory acquisition” shall be substituted.
13. In section 27 of the Principal Act, for the words and brackets ‘on (or)’ occurring in the first line, the word “or” shall be substituted.
14. In subsection (1) of section 41 ofthe Principal Act, the comma and the word “applies” after the figures “I958” occurring in the last line shall be deleted and following shall be inserted,“ “and the Antiquities and Treasures Act, 1972 {Central Act No. 52 of 1972) apply.”.
