Section 84: Inquiry into the afffairs of the Panchayats by the Government.

(1) The Government may, at any time for reasons to be recorded in writing, cause any inquiry to be made by any of its officers in regard to any Gram Panchayat or Zilla Parishad on matters concerning it, or any matters with respect to which the sanction, approval, consent or orders of the Government is required under this Act.

(2) The Officer holding such inquiry shall have the powers of the Civil Court under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (5 of 1908) to take evidence and to compel attendance of witnesses and production of documents for the purposes of the inquiry.

(3) The Government may make orders as to costs of inquiries made under sub-section (1) and as to the parties by whom and the funds out of which they shall be paid and such order may, on the application of the Commissioner or of any person named therein be executed as if it were a decree of a Civil Court.
