Any person other than the owner who destroys, removes, injures, alters, defaces or imperils a protected monument and any owner who destroys, removes, injures, alters, defaces or imperils a monument maintained by the State Government under this Act or in respect of which an agreement has been executed under Section 5, and any owner or occupier who contravenes an order made under Section 7, Sub-section (1), shall be punishable with 1[imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, or with fine which may extend to fifty thousand rupees or with both].
