Section 36: Power to invest surplus

If the ward is not a female as aforesaid, and if any surplus remains after providing so far as the Court may think fit, for the objects mentioned in Section 35, the same shall be applied in the purchase of other landed property or inverted at interest on the security of-

(a) promissory notes, debentures, stock and other securities of the Central Government or the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland;

(b) bonds, debentures and annuities charged by the Parliament of the United Kingdom before the fifteenth day of August, 1947 on the revenues of India or of the Governor-General in Council or of any Province;

(c) stock or debentures of or shares in railway or other companies, the interest whereon has been guaranteed by the Secretary of State for India in Council ;

(d) debentures or other securities for money paid by or on behalf of any municipal body under the authority of any Central Act or Provincial Act or Act of the Legislature of a Part 'A' State ;

(e) such other securities, stocks or shares, guaranteed by the Central Government or the Provincial Government as the Court shall deem fit; or

(f) first mortgages of immovable property situate in Part 'A' States and Part 'C' States provided that the property is not a lease-hold for a term of years and that the value of the property exceeds by one-third or if consisting of buildings, exceeds by one-half, the mortgage-money.
