Attachment with an academic institution within the country (IISc/ IITs/ NITs/ IIITs and CFTIs) or foreign universities are also permitted for the exceptional cases with special permission in lieu of industrial training.
R. 22.2 Students should submit a report during the last week of May along with the certificate obtained from the industries, R&D organizations, or Academic Institutes. The performance in the internship will be evaluated based on the report and viva-voce examination. The examiners for the viva-voce examination shall be the HoD and the program coordinator or the nominees.
R. 23 Scholarship At present, the institute is not offering any Institute level scholarship. However, students can avail scholarships from Government of India/ State Government and others, if any as per the eligibility. Moreover, if scholarships are granted by any stakeholders or other agencies at institute level, the same shall be made available to the students.
R. 24 Eligibility for Award of B.Tech. Degree A student shall be eligible for the award of the degree of the Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) only if:
a) Student has undergone the prescribed program of study by earning the minimum total number of credits specified in the curriculum of the relevant program of study.
b) Student has a minimum CGPA of 5.
c) Student has no dues to the Institution, Library, Hostels, etc.
d) Student has no disciplinary action pending against them.
R. 25 Eligibility for Award of B.Tech. (Honors) Degree A student shall be eligible for award of the degree of the Bachelor of Technology (Honors) only if:
a) Studenthasundergone prescribed program of study with a SGPA of 8 and above in first four semesters.
b) Student has completed the prescribed four additional, recognized and approved open elective (NPTEL/ SWAYAM/ MOOCs) courses by the institute of three credits each from V semester.
c) Student has scored a SGPA of 8.5 and above from V to VIII semesters.
d) Student has scored an overall CGPA of 8.5 and above in all semesters.
e) Student has no backlogs and disciplinary action.
f) Student registered for B. Tech. (Honors) but failed to fulfill (a) and (e) will be awarded B. Tech.

R. 26 Power to Modify Notwithstanding all that has been stated above, the Senate has the right to approve any modifications brought out at a later date.

200 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA : EXTRAORDINARY [PART II—SEC. 3(ii)] NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 23rd October, 2019 S.O. 3816(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 33 read with section 34 (1) (2) and (3) of the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-private Partnership) Act, 2017 (23 of 2017), the Senate with the approval of the Board of Governors, make the following Ordinances of Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sonepat.
1. All B. Tech. programmes offered by the Institute shall be governed by these B.Tech Ordinances.
2. The B. Tech Ordinances shall also be applicable to any new discipline(s) under these programmes that may be introduced in future.
3. A student becomes eligible for the award of the B.Tech degree after fulfilling all the academic requirements as prescribed by these Ordinances.
4. The Institute shall have the following B.Tech branches:
Computer Science Engineering (CSE) Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Information Technology (IT) ACADEMIC CALENDAR
1.1 Each academic session is divided into two semesters of approximately eighteen weeks duration (with at-least seventy working days for classes in each semester): an Odd semester and an Even semester.
1.2 In addition, there may be a semester during the summer break, called a summer semester.
1.3 The Senate approved schedule of academic activities for a session, inclusive of dates for registration, midsemester and end-semester examinations, inter-semester breaks etc, shall be laid down in the Academic Calendar for the session.
ADMISSION
2.1 The number of seats in each branch of the undergraduate programme for which admission is to be made in the IIIT Sonepat will be decided by the Senate of IIIT Sonepat. Seats are reserved for candidates belonging to EWS, Other Backward Classes(NCL), Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, physically challenged candidates as per the decisions of Government of India from time to time.
2.2 Admission to the B.Tech programme in any year will be based as per directions from the MHRD, Government of India. Currently these are based on performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and HSC examinations as per Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) guidelines through a counselling conducted by the JOSAA & CSAB for the respective year.
2.3 Every student, admitted provisionally or otherwise to any Programme of the Institute, shall submit copies of the qualifying degree/provisional certificate and such other documents as prescribed by the Senate. These documents must be submitted by the prescribed date.
The admission, provisional or otherwise, of any student who either does not submit the required documents by the stipulated date or fails to meet any other stipulated requirement for admission stands cancelled.
2.4 The admission of any student may also be cancelled by the Senate, at any later time, if it is found that the student had supplied some false information or suppressed some relevant information while seeking admission.
2.5 The Institute reserves the right to cancel the admission of any student and ask him/her to discontinue his/ her studies at any stage of his/her career on the grounds of unsatisfactory performance or on disciplinary grounds.
ATTENDANCE
3.1 In order to be eligible to appear in the end semester examinations in subject a semester the student must have
(i) Registration in the Semester
(ii) His/her attendance must be 75% more out of total no. classes held in each subject (i.e. lectures + tutorials in the theory courses and practical hours in practical courses). If a student falls short of this minimum required, he/she will automatically be awarded ‘Fail Grade” i.e. Grade and shall be repeat the studies of the particular Course.
Provided that:
(a) If the Cumulative Attendance (CA) of the student in all theory practical courses for which he/she registers himself/herself in a semester in 75% or more, the student shall be eligible to appear in end semester examination of all the theory and practical courses, if in no subject his/her attendance is less then 75%.

(b) Further, if the CA the student in the semester is less than 75% then the student shall be eligible in the end semester examination only in those course in which his/her attendance is 75% or more.
(c) Under exceptional circumstance, the Director may relax minimum CA requirement to 65% on genuine medical grounds or other compelling reasons on the recommendations of the HOD and concerned Dean (Academic).
(d) In extreme cases such an accident, the Director may relax the minimum CA requirement to 50% on the recommendation of the concerned HOD and Dean (Academic).
(e) The CA computation shall be done by the respective HODs for all UG programs expect for B.Tech. 1 st year for B.Tech year, the CA shall be compiled by Professor Incharge (Academic Affair & Senate). For B.Tech 1 st semester course, the attendance computation shall be done w.e.f. the date of admission of the respective student.
All the compiled CA information shall be forwarded to the Dean (Academic) within 3 days after the last teaching day of the semester for onwards transmission to the Controller of Examination for necessary action.
CONDUCT AND DISCIPLINE
4.1 Students shall conduct themselves within and outside the precincts of the Institute in a manner befitting the students of an institution of national importance.
COURSE STRUCTURE
5.1 Teaching of the courses shall be reckoned in credits; Credits are assigned to the courses based on the following general pattern:
i. One credits for each lecture period ii. One credits for each tutorial period iii. Half credit per hour for each Laboratory or Practical or Project session.
5.2 In order to qualify for a B. Tech. degree of the Institute, a student is required to complete the credit requirement as prescribed in the curriculum for a particular programme.
5.3 No semester will normally have more than six lecture based courses and four laboratory courses.
However, in special cases, students may be permitted to take seven lecture-based courses.
5.4 The course work requirements may be broadly divided into following four main groups of courses:
i. Humanities and Social Sciences ii. Science and Mathematics iii. Common Engineering courses iv. Professional courses
5.5 The total course package for a department will consist of the following components:
i. Common Engineering courses ii. Departmental Core courses iii. Departmental Elective courses iv. Institutional Elective courses (including HSS electives)
5.6 Every B. Tech. Programme will have a curriculum and syllabi for the courses approved by the Senate.
5.7 Medium of instruction, examination and project reports will be in English.
5.8 Faculty Advisor: To help the students in planning their courses of study and getting general advice on the academic programme, the concerned department will assign a Faculty Advisor to each student.
REGISTRATION
6.1 a) Every student is required to be present and register at the commencement of each semester on the dates fixed and notified by Dean (Academic). The registration process for B.Tech students would be centrally organized by the academic branch the institute. For first and second semester B.Tech students, the academic branch conducts the process, whereas for third semester onwards, respective department would do the needful.

(i) Cleared all fees and dues of the Institute, library and hostel (if resident)
(ii) Not been debarred from registering for a specified period on any ground by the competent authority, and
(iii) Dean (Academic) may allow late registration with the prescribed late fee with in next three working days.
6.2 Students failing to register by the deadline will have deemed to have withdrawn for the semester from the programme and the future course of action will be based on the student’s status and the provisions of these Ordinances.
6.3 During registration following conditions must be fulfilled:
a. A student must pass all first year courses before registering for the third year courses.
b. A student must pass ll second year course before registering for the fourth year course Registration for Semester Pre- requisite 1 st to 4 th NIL 5 th Sem 1 st year (Both I & II sem. Cleared) 7 th Sem 2 nd year (Both III & IV sem. Cleared) DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME
7.1 Normally a student shall complete all the requirements for the undergraduate programme in eight consecutive semesters. However, a student must complete the B.Tech programme in the total time elapsed must not exceed 8 years.
TEMPORARY WITHDRAWAL FROM THE INSTITUTE
8.1 A student who has been admitted to an undergraduate programme of the Institute may be permitted to withdraw temporarily from the Institute on the grounds of prolonged illness grave calamity in the family or any complying reasons for a period of one semester or more, provided:
a. he/she applies to the Institute within at least 6 weeks of the commencement of the semester or from the date he last attended his/her classes whichever is later, stating fully the reasons for such withdrawal together with supporting documents and endorsement of his/her guardian;
b. the Institute is satisfied that, counting the period of withdrawal, the student is likely to complete his/her requirements of the B. Tech. Degree within the time limits specified in Clause 8 above;
c. there are no outstanding dues or demands in the Institute/ Hostel /Department/ Library.
WARNING, ACADEMIC PROBATION AND TERMINATION FROM THE PROGRAMME
9.1 A student’s studentship in a programme may be terminated on the following grounds:
a. A decision is taken on disciplinary grounds.
b. On having been found to have produced false documents or having made false declaration at the time of seeking admission.
c. The maximum permissible duration of the programme has been exceeded.
EVALUATION PROCESS
10.1 The Institute follows the Credit Based System of evaluation for all degree programmes Based on the performance of a student in a course evaluated through class-work, two mid semester examinations and end semester examination, a letter grade for that course for the semester is awarded to a student, as:

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is the weighted average of all grades and computed as follows:
CGPA = ∑CiGi/∑Ci Ci denotes credits assigned to ith course and Gi indicate the Grade point equivalent to the Letter Grade obtained by the student to the ith course.
A student who gets an ‘F’ Grade in a course shall have to repeat that Course.
The Percentage of marks of a student can be calculated by multiplying the CGPA of a student by 9.00.
10.2 The students who are detained in a semester in a course or courses on account of shortage of requisite attendance, have the following two options:
i) To register for the course/courses when the course(s) is/are being offered, go through the normal evaluation process and obtain the appropriate grade.
ii) To move the next class and appear for only improvement of sessionals in that course(s) through modsemester examination, such students who have to improve sessionals in different courses of previous semesters, their sessional marks be awarded only on the basis of performance of mid-semester exam ignoring marks of attendance & class works, and limited to maximum 40%.

12.1 A student may be debarred from appearing in the end semester examination due to the following reasons:
a. If any disciplinary action is taken against him/her.
b. On recommendation of a teacher, if his/her attendance in the Lecture/Tutorial/ Practical classes has less than the prescribed minimum during the semester.
SUPPLEMENTRY EXAMINATIONS
13.1 Students who have missed an end semester examination on any reason are eligible to appear for the same examination (Odd scheduled exam in the odd semester & Even scheduled exam in the Even semester) in the subsequent occurring odd or even semester, respectively.
This will be permitted on the request of the student through a form and on payment of the requisite fee.
WITHHOLDING OF GRADES
14.1 Grades shall be withheld when the student has not paid his/her dues or when there is a disciplinary action pending against him/her.
ELIGIBILITY FOR THE AWARD OF B. TECH. DEGREE
15.1 A student shall be declared to be eligible for the award of B. Tech. degree if he/she has:
a. completed all the credit requirements for the degree with a grade D (Pass) or higher grade in each of the subjects (Theory, Laboratory, Workshop, etc), Seminar, Project, Industrial Training, Internship etc;
b. satisfactorily completed all the non-credit requirements for the degree viz Extra Academic Activities, Industrial Training, etc (if any);
c. no dues to the Institute, Department, Hostels, NCC, NSS and NSO; and d. no disciplinary action is pending against him/her.
15.2 The award of B. Tech. degree must be recommended by the Senate and approved by the Board of Governors / Governing Body of the Institute.

1.1 Admission, registration, commencement of classes and other academic processes shall be as recommended by the Senate and approved by the Board from time to time.
2 Degree and non-degree programmes of study:

2.1 The Institute may offer undergraduate, post-graduate, research, integrated and dual degree programmes as well as certificate, diploma, and other non-degree programmes through conventional or on-line modes.
2.2 The Institute shall award degrees to candidates meeting all the requirements for the degree programme as specified by Senate and approved by the Board from time to time.
2.3 All degree programmes shall follow an annual academic calendar of two semesters plus an optional summer term while non-degree programmes may begin at any time of the year.
2.4 The duration of various programmes shall be specified in the guidelines governing the respective programmes of study from time to time by the Senate and approved by the Board.
3 Scheme of evaluation:
3.1 The Institute shall follow a credit based scheme of study for each degree programme.
3.2 The evaluation of the performance of students shall follow a system of relative or absolute letter grades which shall be converted to an equivalent cumulative performance index (CPI) as specified by the Senate and approved by the Board.
3.3 Each credit shall require a certain number of contact hours as specified by the Senate for the particular programme of study.
4 Award of the fellowships, scholarships, medals and prizes:
4.1 Awards of fellowships, scholarships, medals, exhibitions and prizes shall be governed by conditions decided by the Senate and approved by the Board.
5 Finances of the Institute:
5.1 The Institute shall ensure that user charges/ fees charged by it for its various courses and programmes recover the costs of providing the services.
5.2 Any consulting fee and gains or returns from entrepreneurship or intellectual property earned by faculty shall be shared with the Institute as per the consulting norms of the Institute.

I. ORDINANCES for B.Tech Programme
0.1 The minimum academic qualification for admission through Central Seat Allocation (as per MHRD, Govt. of India orders) to IIIT Kottayam (hereafter, the Institute) is a pass in the final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent.
0.2 Admission to the particular branch of study shall be as per MHRD, Govt. of India orders.
0.3 The duration of the B.Tech programme will normally be 8 semesters, and Dual degree programme will be 10 semesters.
0.4 The award of the B.Tech / B.Tech Honours/ B.Tech+MS dual degrees shall be in accordance with the regulations of the Academic Advisory Committee / Senate of the institute.
II. ORDINANCES for PhD programme
1. The Indian Institute of Information Technology Kottayam awards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering/Sciences/Humanities to a candidate who has successfully completed the stipulated Programme of Research.
2. The Programme of Research with the governing rules and regulations are formulated by the Senate of the Institute. The Senate can modify or change the structure, the governing rules and regulations from time to time.
3. A candidate to be awarded the PhD degree has to submit a thesis embodying the findings of his/her research carried out under this programme. The thesis should make an original contribution of high quality to the advancement of knowledge as judged by the experts in the relevant area.
4. A candidate becomes eligible for the award of the PhD degree after fulfilling all the academic requirements prescribed by the Senate of the Institute.
5. The award shall be made upon the recommendation of the Senate of the Institute after ratification by the Board of Governors of the Institute.
6. The PhD degree shall be awarded in the discipline of the Department/Centre which registers the student for the PhD programme.
