1. (1) These rules may be called th0 Passports (Seventh Amendment) Rules, 1979.

(2) They shall come into force o n the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

2. In the Passports Rules, 1967 (hereinafter referred to as the said rules), for rule 16, the following rule shall bo substituted, namely :— "16. Inspection of passport or travel document :— The authorities fov the purposes of clause (c) of subsection (1) of section 12 shall be—

(i) the passport authority; or

(ii) an officer of Police, not below the rank of a Sub-Inspector; or

(iii) an officer of Customs, empowered by a general or special order of the Central Government in thl» behalf."

3.
