Section 9: Presiding and polling officers

The Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Rules, 1974Central Rules · 1952

(1) The Returning Officer or such Assistant Returning Officer as may be specified in this behalf by the Election Commission shall conduct the poll at each place of polling. Every such officer is hereinafter referred to as the presiding officer.

(2) The presiding officer may appoint such polling officer or officers as he thinks necessary to assist him in taking the poll, but he shall not so appoint any person who has been employed by, or on behalf of, or has been working for, a candidate in or about the election.
