(1) In every establishment wherein five hundred or more building workers are ordinarily employed, the employer shall appoint safety officer as per the scale laid down in Schedule V. Such safety officers may be assisted by suitable and adequate staff. The safety officer, duly qualified and experienced, of the principal employer, if any, shall be the over all incharge of the safety of the project and shall report directly to the principal employer.
(2) The duties, qualifications and the conditions of service of safety officers appointed under sub-rule (1), shall be as provided in Schedule V.
(3) Wherever number of building workers employed by single employer is less than five hundred, such employers may form a group and appoint a common safety officer for such group of employers with prior permission of Chief Inspector and written information to the principal employer, if any.
