No manufacturer shall manufacture bricks or tiles other than those of the following sizes and specifications, namely:- Class of bricks size (in cms) specification 1 2 3 First Class (i) 22.86X11.43X7.62 They shall be made from good earth, Bricks (ii) 22.86X11.11X6.826 free from saline deposits and shall be Sand moulded. They shall be thoroughly burnt without being vitrified shall be of good colour, regular and uniform in shape and size with sharp square arises and parallel face. They shall be homogeneous in texture and emit a clear ringing sound when struck.
Tiles (a) Large size- They shall be free from flaws, cracks,
(i) 30.48X15.24X5.08 slips, stone-nodules of lime or
(ii) 30.48X15.24X3.81 kankar and other demishes. A first
(b) Standard size- class brick shall not observe more
(i) 22.86X11.43X3.81 th than 1/6 of its weight of water after
(ii) 22.86X11.43X4.45 being soaked for one hour and shall
(iii) 22.86X11.43X3.81 show no sign of efflorescence on drying.
Second Class (i) 22.86X11.43X7.62 They shall be as well burnt as first Bricks (ii) 22.86X11.11X6.826 class or slightly over-burnt butnot vetrified in any part and shall give a clear ringing sound when struck.In this class of bricks slight irregularities in size, shape or colour shall be accepted but not such as to give irregular or un-even courses when used. They shall have slight slips or flaw but shall be free from lime or kankar nodules. They shall th not absorb more than 1/4 of their weight of water after one hour’s immersion and shall show no sign of efflorescence on drying.
Third Class (i) 22.86X11.43X7.62 They shall not be so fully burnt as Bricks (ii) 22.86X11.11X6.826 first class or second class, but shall be burnt to a raddish yellow colour throughout. Any defect in uniformity or shape shall not be such as to cause difficulty in obtaining uniform courses with their use.
