Section 35: Oath or affirmation by councillors

(1) Every councillor other than an associate councillor, shall, before taking his seat, make and subscribe at a meeting of the Corporation an oath or affirmation according to the following form namely:- "I, A, B., having been elected [-]1 as councillor of the Municipal Corporation of --------------- do swear in the name of God solemnly affirm that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established and that I will faithfully discharge the duty upon which I am about to enter."

(2) If a person sits or votes as a councillor before he has complied with the requirements of sub-section (1), he shall be liable in respect of each day on which he so sits or votes to a penalty of three hundred rupees to be recovered as an arrear of tax under this Act.
