(1) For overall direction, control and supervision of the Police Service, the State Government shall appoint a Director General of Police. He shall also exercise such powers, perform such functions and duties, and have such responsibilities, as may be prescribed.
(2) The State Government may appoint one or more Directors General of Police, Additional Directors General of Police and as many Inspectors General, Deputy Inspectors General or Assistant Inspectors General of Police, as it may deem necessary.
(3) The State Government may, by a general or special order direct in what manner and to what extent, an Additional Director General or an Inspector General or a Deputy Inspector General or an Assistant Inspector General of Police shall assist the Director General of Police in the performance, exercise and discharge of his powers, functions, duties and responsibilities.
