The Punjab Prisons and Correctional Services Act, 2026State Act of Punjab · Act 9 of 2026

(1) The Government may, by a general or special order, direct the transfer of any prisoner with mental illness from the place of detention to any mental health establishment in the State with prior permission of the Board mentioned in section 103 of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 (Central Act No. 10 of 2017).

(2) The method, modalities and procedure by which transfer of a prisoner under this section is to be effected shall be such, as may be prescribed.

54. On the death of any prisoner, the medical officer shall forthwith record all relevant details and particulars of the case, as may be prescribed and send the report to the officer-in-charge of the prison who shall further submit the same to the Head of Department and such other authorities, as may be prescribed.
