In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires.- (a )“ AICTE” means All India Council o f Technical Education established under All India Council o f Technical Education Act, 1987 ( Central Act No. 52 o f 1987);
(b )“CSIR” means the Council o f Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi-a funding agency o f the Central Government;
(c )“DEC” m eans the Distance Education Council established under section 28 o f Indira Gandhi National Open University Act, 1985 (Central Act No. 50 o f 1985);
(d) “Distance education” means education imparted by com bination o f any two or more m eans o f communication, viz. broadcasting, telecasting, correspondence courses, seminars, contact program m es and any other such methodology;
(e )“DST” means the Departm ent o f Science and Technology o f the Central Government;
(f) “employee” means a person appointed by the University to work in the university and includes teachers, officers and other employees o f the University;
(g )“fee” means collection made by the University from the students by whatever name it may be called , which is not refundable;
(h) “Government” m eans the State Government o f Rajasthan;
(i) “higher education” means study o f a curriculum or course for the pursuit o f knowledge beyond 10+2 level;
(j) “hostel” means a place o f residence for the students o f the University , or its colleges , institutions or centers, maintained or recognized to be as such by the University;
(k )‘TCAR” means the Indian Council o f Agriculture Research ,a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Central Act No. 21 o f 1860);
(1) “M CI” means M edical Council o f India constituted under section 3 o f the Indian M edical Council Act, 1956);
(m) “NAAC” m eans the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore, an autonomous institution o f the UGC;
(n) “ NCTE” m eans the National Council o f teacher Education constituted under section 3 o f the National Council o f Teacher Education Act, 1993 (Central Act No. 73 o f 1993);
(o) “off campus centre” means a centre o f the University established by it outside the main campus operated and m aintained as its constituent unit, having the U niversity’s Complement o f facilities , faculty and staff;
(p) “PCI” means Pharm acy Council o f India Constituted under section 3 o f the Pharmacy Act, 1948 (Central Act No. 8 o f 1948);
(q) “ prescribed” means prescribed by Statutes m ade under this Act;
4 ) “ regulating body” means a body established or constituted by or under any law for the time being in force laying down norms and conditions for ensuring academ ic standards o f higher education , such as UGC, AICTE, NCTE, MCI, PQI, NAAC, ICAR, DEC, CSIR etc. and includes the State Government;
(s) “ Rules” m eans the rules made under this Act;
(t) “ Schedule” means the Schedule to this Act;
(u) “ Sponsoring Body” means the Kushal Education Trust, a Trust registered under Rajasthan Public Trust Act, 1959 ( Rajasthan Act No. 42 o f 1959) having Registration No. 20, Jaipur, 2002 dated 28.08.2002;
(v) “Statutes” , “Ordinances” and “ Regulations” means respectively , the Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations o f the University made under this Act;
(w) “Student o f the University” means a person enrolled in the University for taking a course o f study for a degree, diplom a or other academic distinction duly instituted by the University, including a research degree;
(x) “ Study centre” means a centre established and m aintained or recognized by the university for the purpose o f advising, counseling or for rendering any other assistance required by the students in the context o f distance education;
(y) “ teacher” means a Professor , Reader, Lecturer or any other person required to impart education or to guide research or to render guidance in any other form to the students for pursuing a course o f study o f the University;
(z) “ UGC” means the University Grant Commission, established under section 4 o f the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (Central Act No. 3 o f 1956); and
(aa) “University” means the Jodhpur National University, Jodhpur.
