Section 156: Verification of identity of the prisoner

(1) Before admitting a prisoner, the Deputy Jailor shall examine the warrant and by questioning the prisoner regarding his name and other particulars and by verifying the identification marks of the prisoner with those mentioned in the warrant and shall satisfy himself that he is the person referred to in the warrant.

(2) In the event of a prisoner refusing to answer the Deputy Jailor or denying the accuracy or the particulars entered in the warrant, the officer on duty will request the officer in charge of the Police or Military escort to identify the prisoner on the basis of information at his disposal as the person named in the warrant and if the police officer fails to do this, the Jailor or Deputy Jailor shall refuse to admit the prisoner.
