The University shall have the following powers and functions, namely:-
(a) to provide for instructions, training and research in veterinary and animal sciences including on self-finance mode;
(b) to provide for dissemination of the findings of research and technical information through extension education programmes;
(c) to institute degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions in veterinary and 6 animal sciences;
(d) to institute courses of study and hold examinations for and confer degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions on persons who have pursued and qualified for a prescribed course of study or research or both in the University including part courses or research or both carried out in any other University or recognized institutions for the purpose;
(e) to confer honorary degrees or other distinctions as may be prescribed by statutes;
(f) to provide lectures, training and instructions for field workers, livestock farmers and other persons not enrolled as regular students of the University;
(g) to collaborate in academic, research and extension education programmes with other universities, institutes of Indian Council of Agricultural Research and public or private research and development organizations or institutions;
(h) to establish, run and maintain colleges, research stations, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and any other institutions relating to veterinary and animal sciences;
(i) to affiliate colleges, institutions or units to the University under conditions prescribed and to withdraw affiliation from colleges, institutions or units;
(j) to establish and maintain laboratories, libraries, research stations and institutions and museums for teaching, research and extension education;
(k) to institute teaching, research and extension education posts and to appoint persons to such posts;
(l) to create administrative and other posts and to appoint persons to such posts;
(m) to institute and award fellowships, scholarships, studentships, bursaries, exhibitions, medals and prizes in accordance with the Statutes;
(n) to establish and maintain hostels, to recognize hostels not maintained by the University and to withdraw recognition therefrom;
(o) to establish and maintain residential accommodation for the employees of the University;
(p) to fix, demand and receive such fees and other charges as may be prescribed;
(q) to supervise and control residence, conduct and discipline of the students of the University and to make arrangements for promoting their health and welfare; and
(r) to do all such acts and things, whether incidental to the powers and functions aforesaid or not, as may be necessary or desirable to further the objects of the University.
