Section 17: Submission of statement of a claim for compensation

(1) Where, within a period of one year from the date of vesting of an estate, the compensation payable to the Zamindar or Biswedar is not determined, the State Government shall subject to such conditions and restrictions as to security, indemnity, repayment or otherwise as may be prescribed, direct the payment to such Zamindar or Biswedar of interim compensation which shall be equal to one-tenth of the estimated amount of compensation: Provided that, if such compensation is not determined within two years from the date of vesting, the State Government may likewise direct the periodical payment to the Zamindar or Biswedar of such fraction of the estimated amount of compensation as the State Government may in each case specify. (2) The interim compensation paid under sub-section (1) shall be deemed to be a part of and shall be adjusted against the total amount of compensation determined and payable under this Act.
