Section 54: Disposal of ballot papers

(1) The Returning Officer shall, after declaring the results cause to preserve all the packets of ballot papers, whether counted, rejected or tendered. These packets shall not be opened and their contents shall not be inspected or produced except under the orders of an authority competent to decide election disputes.

(2) The packets as given in sub-rule (1) and the marked copies of the electoral roll shall be preserved for a year and shall then, unless otherwise directed by the authority competent to decide election disputes, cause them to be destroyed.

However the original copies of declaration of results shall be kept for six years in stitched volumes for all elections in Farmers Organization.
