Section 2: Definitions

The Tamil Nadu Lifts and Escalators Rules,1997State Rules of Tamil Nadu · 1997

(1) In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires,-

(a) “Act” means the Tamil Nadu Lifts and Escalators, 1997 (Tamil Nadu Act No.XXXV of 1997);

(b) “Form” means a form appended to these rules;

(c) “Section” means Section of the Act;

(d) “Licensee” means the owner of the lift or escalator to whom the licence is granted;

(e) ‘Urban Local Body” means the Corporation, Municipality or Town Panchayat;

(f) “Inspector” means an Inspector appointed under Section 3 of the Act;

(g) “Licensed Electrical Contractor” means the contractor who is licensed by the Electrical Licensing Board Government of Tamil Nadu for carrying out electrical works.

(2) All other words and expressions used herein and not defined shall have the meanings assigned to them in the Act.
