(1) Every employer of an undertaking shall provide free of cost the drivers, conductors and line-checking staff uniforms and rain coats as specified in the Table below 1[and the said categories of motor transport workers should wear the uniforms while on duty] – THE TABLE Category of Staff Particulars of articles Quantity Period of supply 1 2 3 4

Provided that the motor transport workers belonging to any of the above categories and working in such hill areas as the State Government may by notification in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette specify, shall in addition be provided with a woollen coat, woollen long trousers and woollen cap every three years.
(2) Unless the employer has made at his own cost adequate arrangements for the washing of uniforms provided by him under sub-rule(1) there shall be paid to the drivers, conductors and line-checking staff an allowance for washing of such uniforms at the rate of 1[rupees three] per month and such amount shall be paid in arrears on the day on which the wages or salary of the drivers, conductors and line-checking staff are paid.
