Section 74: Qualification of Candidates for election of Chairman

(1) Where the office of the Chairman of a District Panchayat or a Panchayat Union Council is reserved for persons belonging to Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes 53[***] or women, under Section 57 of the Act, only persons belonging to that category shall be eligible to stand for election for such office.

(2) Where no such reservation has been made, nothing contained in sub-rule (1) above, shall be deemed to prevent any Ward member belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe 54[***] or women, of a District Panchayat or Panchayat Union Council, as the case may be, from standing for election as Chairman.
