Section 77: Declaration of result of election when there is no contest

The Tamil Nadu Panchayats (Elections) Rules, 1995State Rules of Tamil Nadu · 1994

(1) If there is only one candidate validly nominated to the office of the Chairman, there shall be no ballot and the Candidate shall be declared to have been duly elected as the Chairman of the District Panchayat or the Panchayat Union Council, as the case may be.

(2) When no nomination is presented within a reasonable time after the commencement of the meeting, the Returning Officer shall take necessary further action for the holding of a fresh meeting for the election in accordance with these Rules. He shall also report the fact to the District Election Officer and the State Election Commission.
