TAMIL NADU TEACHERS EDUCATION UNIVERSITY (Established under Tamil Nadu Act 33 of 2008) Chennai-600 097 Four Year Integrated Programme of Teacher Education B.A.B.Ed Regulations and Syllabus SEMESTER PATTERN (With effect from the academic year 2019-2020 Onwards) Four Year Integrated Programme of Teacher Education B.A.B.Ed.

Regulations SEMESTER PATTERN (WITH EFFECT FROM THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2019 - 2020 ONWARDS)

1. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO B.A. B.Ed. PROGRAMME a) Candidates with at least 50% of marks in the senior secondary / +2 or its equivalent are eligible for admission as indicated below:

B.A. B.Ed. PROGRAMME Educational Qualification Required Pedagogic Specialization Intake Those who have studied Tamil / Advanced Tamil as one of the subjects at the Senior Secondary / +2 Level.

B.A. B.Ed.(Tamil) 100 (not exceeding 35% of total intake in each subject) Those who have studied English /Advanced English as one of the subjects at the Senior Secondary / +2 Level.

B.A B.Ed. (English) Those who have studied History as one of the subjects at the Senior Secondary / +2 Level.

B.A. B.Ed. ( History) b) A composite institution duly recognized as higher education institution that offers undergraduate or postgraduate programmes of study in the field of liberal arts or humanities or social sciences or sciences or commerce or mathematics or an institution offering multiple teacher education programmes is eligible to have an annual intake of 100 students (2 units).

c) Admission can be made in each subject in the B.A.B.Ed programme not exceeding 35% of the total intake.

d) The reservation and relaxation in marks for SC/ST/OBC/PWD and other category shall be as per the rules of the State Government.

f) However, the basis of selection shall be in accordance with the Regulations of the University/Government of Tamil Nadu Guidelines for admission to B.A.B.Ed.

programme in force from time to time.

2. DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME DURATION The B.A. B.Ed. programme shall be for four academic years or eight semesters including school based experiences and internship in training. Student teacher shall, however, be permitted to complete the programme within a maximum period of six years from the date of admission to the programme.

WORKING DAYS a) In a year, there shall be at least two hundred and fifty (250) working days per year excluding the period of examination and admission.

b) There shall be at least one hundred and twenty five (125) working days per semester excluding the period of examination.

c) A working day will be of a minimum of six hours adding up to a maximum of 36 hours per week.

d) The institution shall ensure the availability of teachers and students for consultation and mentoring- providing group or individual guidance.

3. PROGRAMME CONTENT The programme content for B.A.B.Ed. is given in the university syllabus.

4. ADMISSION PROCEDURE a) Admission shall be made on the basis of merit by the marks obtained in qualifying examination and in the entrance examination or any other selection process as per the policy of the State Government.

b) At the time of admission to the programme, the student will need to indicate their selection of the pedagogical subject and the seats may be assigned on the basis of order of merit and availability.

5. FEES The Institution shall charge only such fee as prescribed by the affiliating body/ State Government concerned in accordance with provisions of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) (Guidelines for regulation of tuition fees and other fees chargeable by aided teacher education institutions) Regulations, 2002, as amended from time to time.

6. MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION The candidates admitted into the B.A.B.Ed. programme in the Colleges of Education affiliated to Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University should select the medium of instruction either as English or Tamil (as per the availability of medium of instruction in the Colleges of Education). After the last date of admission, Principals of the Colleges of Education should submit the name list along with the medium of instruction and the pedagogical subject chosen by each candidate to the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University. Classroom instruction shall be carried out separately for different medium of instruction.

In case, if the admitted candidates prefer to change their medium of instruction at later stage of the programme it should be permitted only after obtaining necessary written permission from the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, prior to the publication of Nominal Roll.

programme will be indicated only in the transfer certificate alone.

7. ATTENDANCE Each candidate whose admission is approved by the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University should gain 85% (i.e.107 days per semester) of attendance, failing which they will not be permitted to appear for the B.A.B.Ed. examination. However, as per the decision of the Syndicate of Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University in its meeting held on 10.08.2010 candidates who are able to gain attendance only upto75% on medical ground shall be permitted to appear for the examination after getting condonation of attendance, adhering to the norms of Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University.

8. EXAMINATIONS Each candidate whose admission is approved by the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University should apply for the written examination and practical examination in the first appearance itself. Candidates who have failed to satisfy the minimum attendance norms of the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University will not be permitted to appear for the written examination. Such candidates’ appearance in the practical examination will stand cancelled automatically.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION Passing Minimum for Written Examination Each candidate who appears for the written examination in the first attempt shall be declared to have passed the Written Examination only if he/she secures not less than 50% in aggregate in each course with a minimum of 45% in the external examination in each full course and half a course. All other candidates shall be deemed to have failed in the Written Examination. A candidate who fails in one or more courses in the Written Examination shall be permitted to appear again only for those courses in which he/she has failed.

Revaluation/Retotalling/Xerox Copy of Answer Scripts Revaluation/Retotalling/Xerox Copy are permitted for those candidates who appear in the main examination only.

Candidates can apply for retotalling/revaluation/xerox copy of the answer scripts or all the above to the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University within 10 days after the publication of results by paying necessary fees prescribed by the University provided that the candidate must be a student of current batch.

Maximum Period of Reappearance for Written Examination Each unsuccessful candidate shall be permitted to reappear for the written examination within the next three consecutive academic years, after the completion of the duration of the programme.

PRACTICAL EXAMINATION Passing Minimum for Practical Components Each candidate should apply for the practical examination in the first appearance.

Candidates who have secured not less than 50% in each of the practical components for which weightage is given shall be deemed to have passed in the practical examination.

Others will be treated as unsuccessful candidates in the practical examination.

All the records related to the practical components should be made available to the duly appointed Practical Examination Board at the time of Practical Examination and their decision on the marks to be awarded shall be final.

Maximum Period of Reappearance for Practical Examination Each unsuccessful candidate shall be permitted to reappear for the practical examination within the next three consecutive academic years in the main examination only, after the completion of the duration of the programme.

Classification of Successful Candidates A candidate shall be awarded the B.A.B.Ed. degree if he/she has passed both theory examination and practical components.

Successful candidates shall be classified as specified hereunder by taking into account of the marks secured in Theory and Practical Examinations separately.
