(g) "Probationer under supervision" means a probationer in respect of whom a aupervision order under the Aot has been made by the court ;

(h) "Section" means a section of the Act;

2.~) The number of Probation Officers appointed by the Chief Oommiseiouer under clan e (a) of sub-section (1) of section 13 shall be such as the Chief Commissiouer may fix from time to time.

(2) 'I'he Superintendent, Oeutral Jail, .A.gartala will aot as Chief Probation Officer in addition to' his own duties, " .

3. Subject - to Ithe provisions of the Aot, the Chief -Probation Officer' and other Probation Officers shall be under the depnrtrnenbal oontrol of the Iuapeotor-Geuurul, I 4, 'l'he headquarters of 1\ Probation Officer appointed by the Chief Commissioner shall ordiuarily be such place ss m!.y! be specified in that behalf by the Chief Commissioner but the Inspector-General may, in consultation w ith the District Magistrate, fix any place as the bead-quarters of a Probation Officer. The jurisdiction 'of such Probation Officer shall covet' the wbole of the place in which he is, posted, or a.nv other place specified for the purpose by the Ins pector-Geueral with the approval 'of tbe Chief Commissioner. The headquarters of 1\ fema.le probation officer appointed by the Chief Commissioner shall be fixed by the Inspector-General and her jurisdiction shall cover such place as the Inspector-General :nay specify with the, approval uf the Chief Oornmissioner. 'I'he posting and transfer of Proba tiou Officers appointed by the Ohief Commissioner shall be! made by the ' Inspector-General, IS. Every' Prabatiou Officer shall be furnished with IlD Identity C'Hd as nearly as possible, in Form 1, which shall be returned to the Inspector-General when the Probation Officer is placed under suspauaion or coaaes to hold office. r

10. The Insp8ctor-G:enel'a,l may grant casual leave to the Chief Probation Officer and the District Magistrate may grant casual leave to.other Probation Officers appointed by the Chief CommIssioner under, intimation to the Chief Probation Officer, The Inspector- General may grant other kinds of leave to the Chief Probation Officer, or any other Probation Officer on application made by the Chief Probation Officer, or by the Probation Officer - through tLe Diatrict ¥agi8tr~te and the Chief Probation Officer, as the case may be. 20. A Probation Officer under whose supervision a probationer under super-vision is p lnced shall, by warning and persuasion and by the exercise of personal influence, endeavour to ensure the observance of the' conditions of the supervision order by the; probationer-under supervision.

21.· A11 Probation Officers shall, subject to any directions givon by the court (whether in the upervision order or otherwise) or if so required by the Ohief Probation Officer, visit the houses of the probationers under superv i ion. 'l'he Probation Officers shall supplement such visits by making enquiries in the neighbourhood • .. -!. 26. 36. EVet'Y Probation Officer shall maintain the following records, namely,- : • I I (1~ .a diary showing his day. to ?~y work. including' preliminary .~\l~U1neS, attendance a.t courts, .vlcnts. to probationers .under Bup.el'vIsIOn, contact m~d(j 10 connectIOn. WIth probation and other duties, A copy of the diary shall be submitted to the Cbief Probation Offlce» every week. 'I'he diary shall be closed on the 31st December each-year and deposited aa & confidential record in the office of-the' Chief Probation Officer ;

(2) separate files in respect of each probationer.under supervision containing a history sheet for each recording all .imporbant events during the period of his probation and reports including copies of preliminary reports eubmittnd b.r him nnd orders, passed by·tllf> court during Lhl\ pOl'iod II( ptolltll iOIJ. 37. The District Magistrate or &ny other officer, n9t below. the rauk of au additional Sub-Divisional Megistrste, duly authorised by him, may inspect. the work of. any Probation Officer and any record in the office of the Probation Officer working within his jurisdiction. , 38, -After the expiry bf'the period of probation, , the history sheet shall be maintained in the office of the District Magistrate and in the office of the Inspector-General. The history sheets, index card and chronological record shall be maintained as I,B" Class records and preserved for twelve years. Other records mentioned in Rule 36 .shall be preserved for three years.

39. A Probation Officer may, fOL' due discharge 0 his dutia~1 apply to the appropriate court having accesa to the records of hi ceses and also cases dealt' with under sub-section (1) of section 4. He may also ask Ior permission to take notes or copies of the recorded piIortiQularl and reports relating to hii cases for use in the pedormanc. .' I 1 of his duties.
